Role Summary

We as VOLENTUM Personalberatung are looking for a technical operations manager (m/f/d) on behalf of our client for a responsible key position within an established medium-sized company in the technical building equipment sector.

Our customer is an owner-managed family business with around 100 employees and a long-standing market presence. The company advises, plans, implements and supports customer-specific solutions in the areas of heating, plumbing, ventilation and refrigeration technology. The service portfolio is supplemented by solutions in water and wastewater treatment as well as in the area of renewable energies.

Demanding projects for industrial, commercial and private customers are supported - from planning through execution to subsequent service. The company's main location is in Herzberg am Harz, but the projects are implemented nationally and nationally.

As part of an organizational realignment, a manager is sought who will operationally control the technical organization, further develop existing structures and act as a central interface between management, managers and the project organization.

Living in Lower Saxony or Berlin can be an advantage, as a significant proportion of the projects are located in these regions and, depending on the specific project situation, this can reduce the number of overnight stays required.

Responsibilities

As a technical operations manager (m/f/d), you take on a central role directly below the management. Your focus is on the overall operational management of the technical organization as well as the economic and organizational management of the project business.

Your main tasks include

  • Overall operational control of the technical areas based on relevant key figures
  • Responsible for the successful completion of larger projects in terms of quality, deadlines, costs, results and liquidity
  • Leadership and further development of subordinate managers and employees
  • Control and further development of construction and project management as well as other operational areas
  • Development and establishment of a Project Management Office (PMO)
  • Control of the entire project portfolio and prioritization of critical projects
  • Higher-level resource, capacity, scheduling and personnel planning
  • Regular analysis of project statuses, cost developments, results, liquidity as well as opportunities and risks
  • Initiation of suitable countermeasures in the event of project deviations
  • Accompanying important construction site, project, supplementary, appointment and escalation discussions
  • Support project and construction management with significant operational, personnel or scheduling challenges
  • Examination and evaluation of addenda, additional costs, construction time requirements and essential implementation issues
  • Participation in the selection and evaluation of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Accompanying important customer, partner and project appointments
  • Further development of project standards, reporting structures, controlling processes and digital tools
  • Regular reporting and close coordination with management and commercial management
  • You do not act as a technical specialist for every detail, but rather as an experienced manager, coordinator and entrepreneurial-minded controller who brings together complex projects and different specialist areas.
  • The function involves regular presence at the company location as well as on construction sites nationwide. Accordingly, there should be a high willingness to travel. After successful training, a relevant portion of mobile working is possible at the same time.

Requirements

For this demanding leadership role, we are looking for a personality with strong entrepreneurial thinking, leadership experience and a sound understanding of the processes involved in larger construction and plant engineering projects.

Ideally, you should bring the following with you

  • Completed engineering degree, for example in TGA, utility, building or construction technology, or a comparable qualification
  • Alternatively, a qualification as a technician or master craftsman with relevant relevant professional experience
  • Several years of professional experience in the construction industry or in plant engineering, ideally in the area of technical building equipment
  • Management experience in a comparable position within a medium-sized company
  • Experience in managing demanding projects and dealing with larger or professional clients
  • Strong business understanding and confidence in dealing with project metrics
  • Experience in managing budgets, costs, results, schedules and resources
  • Basic knowledge of construction law and VOB
  • Confident use of MS Office and experience with ERP and project management systems
  • Experience in setting up or further developing structures and processes
  • High communication and decision-making skills
  • Collaborative leadership style combined with the ability to make clear decisions when necessary
  • High willingness to travel nationwide
  • The position is particularly interesting, for example, for experienced project or department managers who are looking for the next step into overarching overall responsibility. Experienced operations managers from smaller organizations are also eligible.
  • Relevant professional backgrounds can come from the areas of SHK/TGA, HVAC system construction, building and supply technology as well as TGA units of general contractors or comparable construction companies.

Benefits

The position gives you the opportunity to significantly shape the technical organization of an established medium-sized company and to have a direct influence on the company's future development.

What awaits you

  • Permanent, full-time position
  • Key position directly below the management with regular communication
  • High scope for decision-making and design
  • Opportunity to actively build and further develop structures and processes
  • Establishment of a central project management office as an essential design project
  • Possibility of additional variable remuneration or bonus based on operating results
  • 30 days vacation
  • No regular weekend work
  • Travel time is considered working time
  • Flexible organization of business trips
  • Credit card and fuel card for business trips
  • Mobile working or home office depending on the level of training and the operational situation
  • After successful training, around 25 to 30 percent mobile working is expected
  • Structured induction by various company departments
  • Personal mentoring and direct exchange with management
  • Long-term professional and entrepreneurial development opportunities
  • In the future, the opportunity to take on even greater responsibility within the company
  • The position combines operational responsibility, leadership and entrepreneurial design. It is therefore particularly suitable for a person who does not only want to manage existing structures, but also wants to actively develop the technical organization of a medium-sized company.
