Role Summary

HEALTH DOES NOT WAIT.

The symptoms get worse. That it takes 6 months before getting an appointment. Let us depend on a health system mired in paper and manual processes. And yet, this is how health works in West Africa today. You wait until you can't wait any longer.

We exist to end this wait.

Born in 2022 in Senegal, Tanel is the first digital health insurance in French-speaking West Africa. It operates in Senegal and Ivory Coast. We are transforming a market dominated by paper-based processes and fragmented legacy players. With more than 30,000 members, a network of more than 1,200 health establishments and more than 400 pharmacies, as well as a turnover multiplied by 7 in 2025, we have demonstrated a true match between our product and the needs of the market, in countries that needed a revolution.

In 2026, Alan, the European leader in health insurance focused on prevention, with more than €950 million in turnover and +1 million members in France, Belgium, Spain and Canada, acquired Tanel in order to accelerate its expansion on the African continent. Together, we are building the benchmark health insurance in French-speaking West Africa, with the ambition of reaching $200 million in turnover by 2030.

We bring together the best of both worlds: Tanel's field expertise, local relationships and the trust she has built, as well as Alan's cutting-edge technology platform, actuarial expertise and experience in deployment in several countries.

⭐️ FINANCE AT ALAN ⭐️

Finance at Alan is the team that builds the financial foundation to manage growing digital health insurance, in markets where almost everything remains to be built.

The heart of our responsibilities: produce reliable financial information for each of our entities, keep accounts always ready for closing, and give the company the figures on which it can rely to make decisions. On a daily basis, this means keeping the accounts, managing closings, coordinating external firms, monitoring cash flow and pushing for automation in a multi-country and multi-currency context.

⭐️ THE ROLE OF FINANCIAL DIRECTOR ⭐️

We are looking for an experienced and operational financial manager to lead the entire finance function of our activities in West Africa.

You will be the single point of responsibility for how this scope is managed and reported. Based in Dakar, you will act as a link between local teams, external firms and the parent company. In detail, your missions will include:

  • Manage the reporting of the entire scope: produce each month the income statement, balance sheet and cash position of each entity and properly integrate them into the overall monthly reporting.
  • Coordinate accountants and firms: lead a team of accountants and the relationship with the external accounting firms of each entity — set the closing schedule, review their deliverables and maintain the level of quality.
  • Manage closing and controls: ensure reliable monthly closing on all entities and currencies (FCFA and USD), carry out reconciliations and put in place the necessary controls as the activity moves closer to accounts ready for audit.
  • Ensure the link with the parent company: be the group's finance contact — translate local realities into reporting standards, respond to data requests and support consolidation.
  • Improve, automate and grow the team: challenge and streamline financial processes to reduce manual work and accelerate reporting, and participate in recruitment, onboarding and skills development of the local finance team.

You will work with great autonomy, in close collaboration with the central Finance, Data and Treasury teams.

⭐️ A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN SOMETHING HISTORICAL ⭐️

As a member of the Alan team, you will be at the forefront of a true health revolution in West Africa.

You will help build the operational backbone of a company growing from 30,000 to hundreds of thousands of members, from two countries to an entire continent.

You will experience the energy of a fast-growing startup, driven by its founders. This is not an ordinary operations position: you will operate in a market where everything is to be built, and where your work will have a direct and visible impact on people's lives.

⭐️ YOU MAY BE THE RIGHT PERSON IF… ⭐️

  • You have more than 6 years of experience in accounting/finance, with real responsibility in a multi-entity closing.
  • You master SYSCOHADA / OHADA standards and local taxation (VAT, IS/BIC).
  • You have proven yourself in managing accountants and external firms, defining standards and maintaining a production schedule, you operate a distributed financial system on time.
  • You are rigorous, autonomous, proactive and solution-oriented.
  • You are an excellent communicator, comfortable bridging the gap between local teams and international contacts.
  • You are perfectly comfortable in French and English (working language of the group).

🎁 ADVANTAGES

  • Type of contract: CDI.
  • On site, in our offices in Dakar, in close collaboration with a passionate local team.
  • All the tools you need to give your best.
  • Comprehensive health insurance through Alan for you and your family.
  • Learning and training opportunities: flexible policy, budgets for books and conferences.

🎯 IMPORTANT NOTE: WE ARE RECRUITING PEOPLE, NOT ROLES.

If you are excited about this opportunity but don't tick all the boxes, we would be delighted to speak with you. All people, including those from underrepresented groups, should feel free to apply: you either succeed or you learn. Remember, this is a guide, not an exhaustive list.

Requirements

It's even better if you have

  • Experience in health insurance, mutual insurance (IPM/mutual) or in a third-party management environment (TPA).
  • Good knowledge of the regulatory environment in Senegal or Ivory Coast; consolidation experience (US GAAP or IFRS/French standards) is a plus.
  • Data and automation skills to make reporting more reliable and faster.

About the Company

We bring together a diversity of profiles

  • Profiles that structure: definition of the reporting model, standards and financial processes,
  • Profiles that deliver: accounting production and reporting of excellence on a daily basis, while continuously improving what we do.

We're looking for team members ready to bring world-class financial standards to markets that deserve them, and turn them into a real advantage.
