Role Summary

A FEW WORDS AT THE FINAL

At VREY we are convinced that diversity strengthens us as a company and society. Neither when hiring nor during the employment relationship are decisions made on the basis of skin color, religion or religious belief, ethnic or national origin, disability or age.

Even if you don't meet all the requirements, don't hesitate to apply anyway. If you are passionate about our mission and think you can contribute, we want to hear from you!

The best way is a warm intro: Do you know someone who fits this role? Recommend the person and receive €3,000 if you are successfully hired.

Requirement: The person is not yet in the process and is officially proposed. Payout after passing the probationary period. In the event of multiple mentions, the first recommendation received counts.

Responsibilities

Mission of the role

  • As Product Manager Energy, you are responsible for developing a “first-of-its-kind” energy management and control product based on our smart meter and CLS infrastructure.
  • You will work closely with our COO as well as external partners such as aEMT, CLS, GWA, hardware and software providers. Your job is to understand technical, regulatory and commercial requirements and derive a clear product roadmap, reliable specifications and working pilots.
  • Product development for Energy Intelligence (especially EMS)
  • You take on product-side responsibility for our new energy intelligence layer based on smart meters, CLS control boxes and controllable assets
  • You analyze which data we need and in what granularity, e.g. B. Generation, consumption, grid consumption, feed-in, battery status, heat pump load, wallbox consumption and system states
  • You develop initial control logic and product concepts for use cases such as self-consumption optimization, §14a taxability, dynamic electricity tariffs, direct marketing and, in the future, flexibility/VPP
  • Pilots, partners and technical conception
  • You help us answer the question: What do we build ourselves, what do we do with partners, what do we buy or integrate?
  • You will build a clear understanding of what hardware, data and control architecture we need for different building types and asset combinations
  • You translate energy industry and technical requirements into concrete product requirements, user stories, data models, interface requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Market, regulation and strategic product development
  • You monitor relevant regulatory developments, especially around CLS, §14a EnWG, smart metering, dynamic tariffs, direct marketing, energy sharing and flexibility
  • You prioritize use cases according to customer benefit, technical feasibility, regulatory relevance and commercial potential
  • You manage the roadmap for our energy products together with Cedric (COO) and Martin (Head of Engineering).

Requirements

  • You already have professional experience in the area of energy management systems (EMS/HEMS) and/or with IoT and data platforms
  • You have a good understanding of smart metering, CLS/§14a EnWG, dynamic electricity tariffs, direct marketing or flexibility marketing
  • You can structure technical complexity and translate it into clear product requirements, roadmaps, specifications and decision templates.
  • You are strong in research, structuring and decision-making and can prepare make/partner/buy options in a well-founded manner.
  • You are not afraid of regulatory issues and can independently familiarize yourself with energy industry issues.
  • You use data and metrics to validate hypotheses, justify priorities and make product decisions measurable
  • You have a strong interest in the energy world and start-ups or real estate
  • You are consciously not looking for a 9-to-5 job, but rather want to take on responsibility, build structures and actively shape growth in a fast-paced, founder-oriented environment
  • You are in Berlin (or ready to move) - our office is our home base
  • You speak German and English fluently

Benefits

  • Responsibility: central role in our core team
  • Compensation: Competitive salary and shares in the company
  • Start date: as soon as possible, unlimited
  • Team & Benefits: Fun team, tech budget of €2 thousand, regular team events and learning lunches, free drinks, Germany ticket
  • Additional benefits: Daily collaboration with the founders, drinks & snacks, personnel responsibility and the opportunity to help shape the company from the ground up
  • The most important thing: You are passionate about entrepreneurship and start-ups. We don't create endless slide decks or purely theoretical models - we build a company and take a big step forward every day. If you want to help shape something big from day 1, you've come to the right place.

About the Company

At VREY we build the EnergyOS for multi-family homes.

There are over 3.3 million apartment buildings in Germany - and they are the black hole of the energy transition. <1% solar penetration. <2% smart metering. Hardly any flexibility or intelligent energy management.

At the same time, regulation is forcing owners to make massive investments: solar is becoming mandatory, smart meters must be rolled out across the board in the next 5 years, heating and mobility are becoming electrified. From concrete gold, the apartment building becomes an active part of the decentralized energy infrastructure.

What is missing is an integrated system that makes this change economically and operationally manageable.

VREY combines certified metering point operation with its own software and, for the first time, enables owners to sell their self-generated solar power directly to their tenants - easily and without becoming an energy supplier themselves (§42b EnWG).

This turns regulatory pressure into a profitable and predictable opportunity:

  • Double-digit returns and increased value for owners,
  • ~20% electricity cost savings for tenants, and
  • digital infrastructure for storage, heat pumps and flexibility.

We already manage a three-digit number of projects - including the largest property owners and housing associations - in all 16 federal states. This means that we are one of the leading providers in the market in a very short time.

As part of our seed financing, we raised €3.3 million from leading impact and energy VCs (including Rubio Impact Ventures, HTGF, Kopa Ventures). With the fresh capital, we are entering the next phase of growth and expanding our team in a targeted manner.

We are at the beginning of a structural market upheaval. Whoever defines the energy infrastructure in apartment buildings today will shape it for decades. Become part of VREY and build the leading EnergyOS with us.

Company profile

VREY GmbH builds an energy operating system for multi-family buildings in Germany. Its service enables shared building power supply, known as Gemeinschaftliche Gebäudeversorgung, which gives tenants cheaper electricity and owners higher returns. VREY targets the more than 3.3 million apartment buildings in Germany, where solar and smart metering are still rare and new rules require owners to invest in solar power and smart meters.
