Company profile

Sicredi is a Brazilian cooperative credit system. In December 2005 it brought together 130 credit cooperatives and was active in ten Brazilian states. Its oldest cooperative was set up in the municipality of Nova Petrópolis, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, by the Jesuit missionary priest Theodor Amstad. Sicredi's members were originally farmers with average incomes, but in 2003 the Central Bank of Brazil authorised open-admission urban cooperatives, and from then on the system also reached urban areas.
