Role Summary
We are looking for a highly motivated and creative person (m/f/d) who is interested in a doctoral position in the area of design, verification and testing of ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits) for use in complex sensor systems. In this position, you will have the opportunity to develop agentic AI software solutions to significantly accelerate development cycles in various design domains (digital design and verification, mixed-signal verification and testing).
Responsibilities
Your tasks and activities include, among others
Research on current AI platforms and tools based on available commercial, open source, in-house and academic solutions
In-depth insight into our ASIC development process
Analysis and integration of multimodal source solutions, which include: Process XML register maps, VHDL code files and Python-based test descriptions and convert them into machine-readable formats (e.g. Markdown).
Manage high-impact use cases across the entire ASIC development lifecycle in various development domains, including digital design & verification, ASIC testing, and analog mixed-signal verification. Examples include automated VHDL code generation, automated test item generation for wafer testing, coverage-driven regression testing and optimization, AMS testbench generation, and closed-loop evaluation and test case optimization
- Architecture selection, implementation and critical evaluation of scalable and portable AI concepts (e.g. “human-in-the-loop” vs. fully automated AI agents) that are best suited for the use cases examined
- Holistic integration of the developed solutions into our ASIC development process as well as the associated data management using modern version management tools (e.g. GIT)
- Collaboration and active exchange of ideas with experts in ASIC development as well as with internal and external research partners and expert networks
- Participation in innovative projects in international and interdisciplinary teams for the global market leader in sensing solutions
- Writing scientific publications as well as publishing and presenting research results at international conferences and in specialist journals
Requirements
- Personality: You have a high level of enthusiasm and creativity as well as a real willingness to work together in international and interdisciplinary teams.
- Way of working: You are an effective team player with a focused, methodical and very independent way of working.
Experience & Expertise
- Basic experience in the use of AI tools, agent development and prompting is mandatory.
- Strong expertise in Python scripting, a general understanding of VHDL and Verilog as well as programming and the efficient use of various data formats are required.
- Basic understanding of ASIC design methodologies in digital development, analog/mixed signal simulation and wafer testing.
- Familiarity with platform-specific advantages and disadvantages of AI platforms in order to use them for the identified use cases.
- Experience in software development is an advantage.
- Languages: Very good knowledge of English is mandatory; Advanced knowledge of German is an advantage.
- Education: A university degree (Diplom/M.Sc.) in electrical engineering, computer science or a comparable field with excellent academic achievements is required.
- We offer you: We offer you an inspiring and challenging environment in which you can successfully complete your doctorate as part of a 3-year program. You will work closely with an interdisciplinary team and have access to state-of-the-art technologies and resources.
