Role Summary

The assessment of the energy efficiency of hydraulic drives in mobile machines is becoming increasingly important as early as the project planning phase. To evaluate different system topologies, the specified output power on individual actuators is calculated back to the required drive power using a system rule. The implementation of the system regulations is currently done manually in MATLAB, which involves considerable effort with every new system topology. AI agents offer the potential to automate this step – provided the hydraulic system is presented in a machine-readable, clear and physically complete description. To date, there is no established format that combines system topology and parameterization in such a way that an AI agent can reliably generate executable and validatable MATLAB code. The aim of this work is to develop such a formal description language for work hydraulic systems, to use it as a prototype and to prove its suitability as an interface between engineer and AI agent.

During your master's thesis, you will analyze the current state of the art and research existing forms of description of hydraulic systems, such as ISO 1219 circuit diagrams or bond graphs, and identify the specific requirements of AI agents for structured inputs.

You will then design a formal, machine-readable description language that clearly depicts the topology and parameters of typical work hydraulic systems in mobile work machines.

As a prototype, you implement an AI agent that reads this formal description and uses it to generate a system rule as MATLAB code.

You validate and evaluate your method, compare the automatically generated code with a manual reference implementation and derive concrete recommendations for further development and industrial use.
