Role Summary

In medium-sized businesses, the digitalization of accounting will determine which companies will remain manageable in the coming years - and which will get stuck in document chaos and media disruptions. E-invoicing requirements, new DATEV generations, interfaces to previous systems: the requirements are increasing faster than most companies and many law firms can keep up with. This is exactly where the need for advice arises, and it doesn't stop there.

Vogel is one of the most successful medium-sized consulting companies in Germany - several thousand medium-sized companies entrust us with their tax, commercial and strategic issues. We are expanding digitalization and process consulting as our own consulting pillar: the complete handling of DATEV-related projects for the client - from the introduction of digital accounting and Next order management to the switch to e-invoicing to interfaces in upstream systems and ongoing support in day-to-day business. You expand this pillar and its team and help determine what client digitalization in medium-sized businesses will look like in the future - your contribution remains visible in the architecture.

You come from DATEV or process/system consulting, from a DATEV system house, from the digitalization unit of a law firm or from an accounting-related implementation role. For years you have seen how much is lost due to poor processes and half-time tool introductions - and every time you reach the limits of your role: you recognize the lever, but you are only responsible for the project, not the client and not the business area. You want to be responsible for the advice yourself, close to the client, with a team and with sales responsibility. At Vogel you will find this: structures that support - established clients, long experience, strong growth base - and at the same time a setup that moves forward every day. No corporate corset. There is no promise of development without a foundation.

You are responsible for setting up digitalization and process consulting - you open up the existing clientele for these topics, handle the client's projects, design recurring consulting and support offers and are responsible for sales for the area. From day one, you set the pace for the young colleagues who are already on board. You report to the management, who closely supports the development of this pillar. The natural progression leads to a senior manager role with full responsibility for digitalization and process consulting — a management career, not an administrative position.

What you delivered after 6 months

  • You have taken over the ongoing DATEV-related projects and are completing them independently for the client - introductions, e-invoicing conversions, interface connections.
  • You have looked at the existing clientele and identified and addressed the first wave of companies for which digitalization is the next lever.
  • You work well with the young team members - they deliver according to your technical specifications, and you are jointly responsible for the first client results.

What you delivered after 12 months

  • You have created the first recurring, billable offers from individual projects and have used them to build a sustainable revenue line that several clients pay.
  • You have built up the DATEV depth that the role needs and are the contact person for the digital processing of accounting for both clients and colleagues.
  • You have set the standards of the area — procedures, documentation, quality benchmarks — so that projects are repeatable and not dependent on individuals.

What you delivered after 24 months

  • You have established a viable offering portfolio that is billed on a recurring basis and scales as your mandate volume grows.
  • You are the technical escalation end point for digitalization and process consulting and have expanded the team beyond the first members.
  • You are a candidate for the next senior manager position in the area.

Where the position is developing

The next step is Senior Manager Digitalization and Process Consulting (management career) - but this requires an independently developed, recurring business area, not just additional professional years. We don't know any kind of automatism “more experience equals higher level”. The senior manager level opens up the director and, in the future, VP path along our career framework.

Responsibilities

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

Handling of DATEV-related client projects

  1. Responsible for the complete processing of DATEV-related projects for the client - introduction of digital accounting (DATEV accounting, company online), implementation of Next order management, conversion to e-invoicing and connection of feeder systems (merchandise management, cash registers, payroll feeder systems) via interfaces.
  2. Accompany the client from the start of the process through the setup to stable operation - including ongoing support in day-to-day business, from "How do I best book this?" until the change or expansion of the account framework.
  3. Identify media breaks and automation potential and translate between specialist areas (accounting, wages, tax) and technology - clearly documented in procedural documentation and process descriptions. Your benchmark: Every process introduced must run for the client without you - and support double the project volume without using up twice as much consulting time per case.

Development of the business area and responsibility for sales

  1. Actively open up your existing clientele for digitalization and process consulting - you will recognize where digitalization is the next lever, actively talk to the owners and managing directors about it, and turn the need for advice into billable mandates.
  2. Develop recurring, productized offers that are based on ongoing accounting and scale - digitalization check, e-invoice readiness, interface setup, process audit, ongoing digital support as a retainer.
  3. Have sales responsibility for the area - you form a supporting, recurring sales line from individual projects and develop the pillar in the future beyond the accounting-related field.

Professional leadership of the team and a culture that makes performance visible

  1. Lead and professionally develop the young team members who are already on board - you set the pace, review their work with the client, give orientation and make them better on real projects.
  2. Gradually expand the digitalization and process consulting team with the management - you will be involved in hiring, from the technical assessment to the Conviction recommendation.
  3. Set the tone in the team: hierarchical in decision-making, flat in communication, autonomous in execution. We celebrate performance, not hide it - anyone who is good will find the space for it here, without political camouflage and without consensus theatre.

WHAT YOU WON'T FIND WITH US

  1. No pure IT or tool job without client responsibility. You don't administer systems in the background - you advise clients, manage projects and manage relationships and sales.
  2. No digitalization advice that makes recommendations and then leaves. You are responsible for the client's implementation right through to ongoing operations, not just the diagnosis and the concept.
  3. No fully planned desk. This pillar is currently being built. You help develop offers, standards and cutting instead of operating a finished machine.
  4. Not a dusty industry stand with technology as of 2010. If you see the DATEV standard plus Excel as the maximum and are afraid of AI and automation, this is not the right place for you.
  5. No exit from consulting into a 45-hour week. The intensity remains high. Directed differently, with significantly more ownership — but not less.

FAQ

  1. WHAT IS BIRD — AND WHERE DO YOU WORK?

Vogel is one of Germany's leading medium-sized business consultancies - a family business since 1959, based in Aalen - and is building the leading consulting platform for medium-sized businesses. We are growing at several locations: in Aalen/East Württemberg as an established headquarters and in Munich as a new hub. In both, we look across functions — from tax advice to consulting to the strategic teams that build the platform.

  1. HOW TO UNDERSTAND THE SALARY BANDS?

Deliberately wide - and identified at every point. We differentiate based on track record and market value, not on degree: scarce, highly sought-after profiles at the top end, less scarce ones at the bottom. We calibrate exclusively to the market - two people with similar experience can earn different things with us.

  1. HOW MUCH — AND HOW — DOES VOGEL WORK?

It's measured by what you move, not by hours. But it's also honest: If you're looking for 9-to-5, we're not the first place to go. We are looking for people who work intensively on their own initiative because the tasks are worth it. How you distribute your time is largely up to you. What we share: We work together face-to-face - culture, sparring and the best ideas arise in daily proximity. We are not a remote company and do not have major home office policies; Individual remote days are no problem.

  1. HOW DOES THE APPLICATION PROCESS?

Slim, fast, transparent — and graded according to profile. For entry-level roles (internship, work study, career entry), two interviews and a short work sample are usually sufficient; experienced roles are a little more detailed. For selected senior roles, we are looking into incorporating a joint working day in the future so that both sides get to know each other better. The following always applies: scheduled deadlines, quick decisions, substantial feedback - regardless of the outcome.

  1. HOW DOES VARIABLE PAY WORK?

Linked to performance on a quarterly basis and assessed qualitatively. The scale increases with the level: up to 20% Associate, 27.5% Manager, 35% Senior Manager, 42.5% Director, 50% VP. Expected value with good performance - you meet the requirements, set your own accents, pass the keeper test - is around 50% of the maximum; the maximum bonus is not the norm. The focus is on a holistic assessment by your manager: ownership, quality, learning curve, collaboration, impact.

  1. HOW DO I DEVELOP MYSELF - WHAT CAREER PATHS ARE THERE?

Two active paths: Mastery (technical depth, expert career) and Pioneer (leadership, management). You choose the direction after onboarding, usually in years 1-3. Starting a career is not a special path, but rather the early part of the same route - from working student or intern to associate, for the best ones without having to reapply.

  1. TEAM, CULTURE, HOLIDAY?

A shared lunch is an open daily option - not an obligation; If you like, you can join us; anyone can eat at any time. Plus dinners, social events and offsites on a regular basis - not as a mandatory program, but because a good team also shares time outside of work. Benefits: thoughtful and substantial, not symbolic. Vacation: 28 days.

  1. I KNOW SOMEONE - IS THERE A REFERRAL BONUS?

Yes — EUR 2,500 for each successfully filled position (no internships). A short context is enough: who you are thinking about, for what role, why. Doesn't have to fit perfectly, but has to be substantial.

Requirements

THIS IS WHAT YOU BRING WITH YOU

Experience & track record

  • You have process and system depth from practice - from DATEV or process consulting, a DATEV system house, the digitalization unit of a law firm or an accounting-related implementation role.
  • You understand accounting - not as a theoretician, but because you have already introduced, converted or automated accounting, payroll or order processes.
  • You were responsible for digital projects for customers or clients from analysis to operation - not just worked on them.
  • You don't have to know DATEV inside and out. What counts is the willingness to fully immerse yourself in the DATEV ecosystem and become really good at it in a short time - you will build up the depth with us.
  • Profiles that do not fit into the above grid, but have substantial process and system implementation proximity to accounting, are expressly invited - we evaluate on the contribution, not on the label. Specifically: ERP or financial accounting consultants from a different tool environment with a desire for DATEV depth; Accountants or tax specialists with a strong affinity for processes and tools who have already driven projects; E-invoicing or interface specialists with a consulting drive. The range shown above applies to the primary profile. Anyone who brings a different background starts at a different market price and converges to the role level after twelve months of proven performance - the logic behind this is in our compensation principles https://www.vogel-beratung.com/culture/verg%C3%BCtungsgrunds%C3%A4tze.

Skills & way of working

  • You translate between specialist and technical — you understand what an accountant, a payroll clerk or a tax advisor really needs and translate it into a clean, digital process.
  • You master the mechanics of client digitization: digital accounting, document and invoice receipt workflows, e-invoicing, interfaces between source systems and accounting, chart of accounts logic.
  • You think in terms of products, not individual orders - you can tailor a recurring consulting and support service so that it is based on current accounting, scaled and can be billed.
  • You work with AI as a natural tool — for process analysis, documentation, data migration and research. Repetitive tasks are an incentive for you to automate, not a fate.

Mindset & personality

  • You enjoy direct client contact - you can explain clearly to a skeptical owner or a long-time accountant why a new process is better and take them along with you.
  • You have the humility to learn from practitioners. The accountant with twenty years of experience knows things about her process that aren't in any tool manual — you build on it, not over it.
  • You see the changing industry as an opportunity, not a threat, and are interested in building a business area that doesn't yet exist.
  • You aspire to set the highest standard in everything you deliver — not because someone controls it, but because mediocrity bothers you personally.
