Role Summary
Why this position?
AFRY in Norway is now looking for experienced professionals in dam engineering and dam safety, electromechanics and hydromechanics, who want to take a central role in the further development of our business in hydropower.
We have extensive experience in the international market and are in the initial phase of building up our Norwegian department. We are in a phase where each employee is a key person who gets to help shape the team. With us, you therefore get a combination of the security of an established, international company - and the opportunity to influence the direction, way of working and professional development in a local environment that is still being developed.
This is not a role for you who only want to work within established frameworks, but for you who like to combine solid professional weight with a practical understanding of implementation with new opportunities, and who are motivated by contributing to dam and hydropower projects.
As part of our professional environment within hydropower, you will work on a wide range of tasks with room for influencing your own work tasks. Typical work tasks include
- design and reassessment of dams
- assessment and design of electromechanical parts in the waterway (e.g. turbines, generators, pumps, and other electromechanical installations), or
- assessment and design of hydromechanical parts in the waterway (e.g. hatches, pipe passages, valves, etc.)
With all roles, there will be the possibility of professional responsibility as project/project manager or discipline manager. There will also be a need for support with tender work and other strategic tasks. As part of a growing team, there will also be a need for follow-up of newer colleagues in the field.
- The working day will typically consist of a combination of:
- technical planning and professional assessments
- interdisciplinary collaboration across disciplines and national borders
- dialogue with customers, suppliers and other professional environments
- participation in technical meetings, inspections and project follow-up where relevant
- professional responsibilities, including tasks within project management/project management
the position involves some travel activities, including business trips and inspections.
Desirable personal qualities
- Strong collaborative skills and a genuine desire to contribute to the community
- Ability to work structured
- Flexible and solution-oriented with a positive attitude
- Good communication skills
- Is professionally confident, but still curious
- Wants to contribute actively to the development of a professional environment with a positive working environment
Requirements
We are looking for professionals with solid competence in hydropower, specifically related to dam constructions, electromechanics or hydromechanics. In order to succeed and thrive in the role, we see that you have good problem-solving skills and are happy to immerse yourself in technical issues. In addition, flexibility and motivation for varied tasks are highly valued since we are a developing team in a market with many innovative opportunities. A large part of the work is carried out in project form, and we are therefore looking for someone who enjoys collaboration. You are happy to contribute knowledge and ideas, while at the same time you are curious and want to develop with others.
Since you may be given responsibility for parallel projects and tasks, it is also important that you have the ability to plan and structure your work and take your own initiatives to find solutions and drive the work forward.
Formal requirements
Relevant higher education; civil engineer (MSc) or engineer (BSc) with specialization related to dams (construction engineering, geoengineering, watercourse engineering, etc.), construction, electromechanics, machinery or hydromechanics,
- Experience in hydropower projects (project planning, inspection, reassessment, etc.),
- Good Norwegian and English skills, written and oral,
- For hydromechanics: NVE certification for subject area III,
- For dam engineers: NVE certification within subject area I and/or II
It is an advantage if you have
- Solid experience with Norwegian requirements and regulations (NVE guidelines, etc.)
- Previous experience as a consultant/advisor
Benefits
- A central role in socially critical projects
- Opportunity to influence and shape a new subject area
- An inclusive and supportive international work environment with a high level of commitment
- Good development opportunities - both nationally and internationally
- Flexible working methods and a high degree of trust
- Free during Easter week and Christmas Eve
- We have offices at Lysaker in Oslo. We emphasize a good group environment, and therefore appreciate your presence in the office. There will be the possibility of a hybrid solution with a home office to facilitate flexibility.
