Requirements

An experienced Software Developer with demonstrable operational experience who not only enjoys developing the DevOps mindset and SRE approach in others, but is also able to propagate this and further develop yourself in this regard. You have a continuous learning mindset and are aware of the latest developments within the software industry and understand how these can be applied in practice.

As a Java Engineer we expect you to

Have at least 5 years of work experience as a Java Software Developer

Demonstrable experience as an Operational Engineer

Experience working in accordance with DevOps/SRE principles, including wake-up services and willingness to do so.

• Knowledge and experience with software design for Cloud native solutions (Cloud infrastructure is a plus)
• CKAD certified (or comparable) or willingness to obtain it
• Implementation of CI/CD Pipelines and applying Shift-Left principles
• Experience using Observability platforms
• Intrinsic motivation to continuously update your knowledge, including obtaining any certifications.
• Knowledge and/or experience with the application of AI in your work area is an advantage
• Experience and enjoy working in a team (Scrum and Kanban)
• You bring a positive mindset and solution-oriented attitude.
• Able to transfer knowledge and experience with pleasure.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a relevant equivalent education
• At least Dutch at B1/B-2 level
• This position requires a screening through VOG

TLDR; Help teams grow in maturity and ensure stability, reliability and further development of software applications. Some customers outsource the entire application life cycle to us, which leads to longer-term assignments in order to retain the knowledge in which you have a lot of input. This means that in addition to the usual duration of assignments, we can also offer you longer-term assignments (think 5+ years), with the benefits of consultancy!

We are the Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) practice of Sopra Steria (formerly Ordina). Within this practice, in addition to software development, we place extra emphasis on the operational side: management and maintenance of software applications. We do this in a DevOps way, where you and your team take over the management and entire lifecycle of software applications for larger organizations and (semi-)governments. This also includes, for example, implementing innovations in the technology stack, so that the teams that manage these applications continuously work on responding faster and better to measured behavior of the applications.

Our customer groups belong to the government, financial services or industry sectors and have great social or economic significance for the Netherlands.

• An example of an assignment could include the following:
• Part of your time building the application with the rest of the team, for example:
• Implementing new product features
• Adjust the existing technology stack of a Java application so that it can run in a Kubernetes cluster in, for example, Azure Cloud;
• Ensure that deployments are automated and can be carried out by the team itself;

Ensuring that the right metrics are monitored with associated dashboards and alerting, so that the team knows when something is going wrong before the customer is affected.

You can also spend the other part of your time doing:

Resolve incidents of this application on a rotating basis and perform RCA/Post mortems with associated improvement proposals in a process and/or the application software to discover the incident earlier next time or even prevent it;

Motivate teams to grow to the next maturity level and take next steps with DevOps.
