Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Server and Virtualization)

We are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to work in the administration and operation of on-premises environments, ensuring availability, performance, security and reliability of servers and virtual machines. The position involves Windows/Linux, virtualization, patching, vulnerability management, troubleshooting, monitoring, server lifecycle, RCA and change management, in addition to working with infrastructure automation. The professional will also work together with Security, Networks, Cloud, DBA and Applications teams, contributing to continuous improvement, automation and operational excellence.

This client is a company recognized as a leader in payroll solutions for small businesses, serving more than 900,000 customers and generating approximately US$2 billion in revenue. The team is distributed between the United States, United Kingdom, India and Brazil.

The position requires interaction with international teams, and advanced English is required for daily communication.

In your work routine, you will come across the following activities:

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities are

• Be responsible for the daily operations, administration, maintenance and support of on-premises server and virtual machine infrastructure.
• Plan, coordinate and execute monthly patching activities for the operating system and other components of server environments.
• Drive automation initiatives to reduce manual activities and increase the consistency and reliability of infrastructure maintenance.
• Identify, assess and correct vulnerabilities related to operating systems, applications, middleware and infrastructure.
• Work together with the Information Security teams to ensure the resolution of security notes and compliance requirements.
• Coordinate and carry out change requests related to firewall, network and infrastructure.
• Manage the lifecycle of servers, including hardware upgrades, software upgrades, retirement of EOL technologies, and platform modernization.
• Monitor health, capacity, performance and availability of environments.
• Conduct root cause analysis and management of infrastructure issues.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, patching schedules and runbooks.
• Collaborate with application teams, DBA, networks, cloud and suppliers.
• Drive continuous improvements related to operational excellence, security, automation and reliability.

Requirements

• Solid knowledge in administration of Windows Server and/or Linux in corporate environments.
• Knowledge of virtualized infrastructure platforms, such as VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, OpenShift or equivalent technologies.
• Solid knowledge of operating system patching, software lifecycle management, vulnerability remediation, and change management processes.
• Working knowledge of corporate networking concepts, including firewalls, load balancers, DNS, DHCP and network security principles.
• Experience working with structured change control and governance processes in large corporate environments.
• Experience using internal tools and processes focused on operation, deployment and infrastructure management.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to work effectively with technical and business teams.
• Use of Agile methodology to manage priorities and deliver results in dynamic production environments.
• A degree in Computer Science or a related field will be considered an advantage.

Desirable knowledge

• Experience with infrastructure automation and scripting using PowerShell, Bash or Python.
• Experience with configuration management and deployment automation tools, such as Ansible and Jenkins.
• Experience with observability and monitoring platforms, such as Splunk and Dynatrace, to identify, troubleshoot and proactively address infrastructure problems.
• Experience with vulnerability management solutions and security patch/remediation programs.
• Familiarity with hybrid infrastructure environments, including on-premises and cloud platforms.
• Knowledge of backup and recovery processes, Disaster Recovery planning and infrastructure resilience best practices.
