Role Summary
HSE Professional – GUATEMALA
Identify and ensure the implementation of legal, regulatory, contractual and SGS's own requirements regarding safety, occupational health and the environment in SGS facilities and operations in general, with the purpose of ensuring safe, healthy work environments, with well-being and within the framework of respect and conservation of the environment.
Responsibilities
- Identify the dangers and risks by position, derived from the operational and administrative activities of SGS and establish, together with the operations, the respective controls or preventive measures to avoid or minimize the probability of occurrence of work accidents and occupational diseases.
- Prepare and comply with the annual HSE work plan.
- Conduct periodic visits to all work sites to identify, report and follow up on closure of unsafe conditions observed during visits, as well as to validate compliance with established policies, standards, procedures and controls.
- Conduct planned and unplanned HSE inspections on all work sites and equipment in the operation.
- Validate compliance with periodic maintenance of facilities, equipment, machinery and tools.
- Ensure execution and monitoring of health promotion and work accident prevention activities established in risk management programs, epidemiological surveillance programs, road risk programs and environmental programs.
- Make interventions to unsafe behaviors identified in operations, promoting safe and healthy behaviors, applying authority to stop work, when required.
- Identify HSE training needs, according to the existing positions in operations and the risk exposure for each position and ensure execution in accordance with the established schedule.
- Ensure HSE training, education and training for all SGS workers, including contractors, in accordance with the training needs matrix by position.
- Carry out HSE induction for new staff and regular HSE re-induction for all staff.
- Prepare and keep the matrix of personal protection elements updated and ensure its delivery.
- Advise the operation in the selection of personal protection elements, equipment and safety equipment in general.
- Report work incidents and work-related illnesses, carry out safety stops, investigate incidents, prepare and disseminate lessons learned from work incidents.
Disseminate HSE lessons learned sent to COLCAM
- Keep control of records that support or evidence compliance and execution of all HSE activities to prevent work incidents
- Maintain statistical control of work incidents and occupational diseases, characterize the incidents and characterize the causality of work incidents.
- Support in the development and updating of safe work procedures.
- Manage the organization's HS tools such as Crystal, Chemwatch, Stellar.
- Manage and monitor compliance with leading indicators (LPI).
- Address requirements of the bidding process for the start of new projects.
- Attend first, second and third party HSE audits and manage the closure of identified findings. Carry out SAT audits.
- Form the Occupational Safety and Health Committee, in accordance with current applicable national legislation.
- Monitor, measure and control the HS management of contractors.
- Ensure regulatory compliance regarding emergency management and attention.
- Ensure compliance in the execution of occupational medical examinations for personnel entering the organization, according to their risk profile.
- Collect sociodemographic information and diagnosis of health conditions of workers.
- Have a filing and documentary retention system for the records and documents that support the OSH Management System.
- Execute the procedure to evaluate the impact on SST that may be generated by internal or external changes (MOC).
- Execute the environmental programs applicable to its operations and provide sustainability information to the Environmental & Sustainability Coordinator when required.
- Convene weekly HSE–Operations meetings, encourage clear and effective communication between participants, record agreements and monitor the progress of actions.
- Serve as a liaison for the management of vehicle maintenance, driver qualification and coordination of driving tests when required.
- Support the implementation of BCM – Business Continuity Management for the country.
- Support the controls and procedures required for Security

Requirements
- Education: Engineer, professional, bachelor's degree or higher university technician in occupational health and safety or engineer or professional in careers such as industrial engineering, chemical engineering or similar.
- Experience: Minimum two (2) years of specific experience and five (5) years of general experience.
Technical Knowledge: National regulations on safety, occupational health and the environment, methodologies in investigation of work accidents, knowledge in HS management and assurance in high-risk tasks such as work at heights, confined spaces, chemical risk, HS internal auditor, emergency brigades.
Languages: intermediate English.
