Job Description Summary

The Site Technical Advisor (Turbine and Alternator) is the technical specialist present on site, responsible for supporting the installation and commissioning activities of hydroelectric projects. He ensures that mechanical work and all work is carried out in accordance with design studies, technical standards, quality requirements as well as health, safety and environmental regulations.

The Technical Field Advisor (Turbine and Generator) is the on-site technical specialist supporting the installation and commissioning of hydroelectric power projects. This role ensures that the mechanical and overall works are executed in accordance with the design, technical standards, quality requirements, and health and safety regulations.

The Site Technical Advisor is responsible for the preparation, direction and control of the different phases of on-site operations for a project. This role is essential to ensure that work on site is carried out safely, to quality requirements, on time and on budget. The ideal candidate will have solid experience managing construction sites, strong leadership skills and a proven ability to resolve problems quickly and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) compliance, assess tasks to identify hazards posing risks to workers, verify that control measures are in place to prevent injuries and unplanned events. Stop work if risks are not sufficiently controlled
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture; ensure that all technical works meet HSE requirements
  • Participate in risk analyses, operating procedures and task safety analyzes for high-risk activities (heavy lifting, confined spaces, hot work, work at height, work under tension)
  • Support the implementation of environmental protection measures
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards, permits and regulatory obligations during the construction and commissioning phases
  • Work closely with the Site Manager to plan and sequence construction activities
  • Contribute to the development of construction schedules for technical tasks and critical path activities
  • Provide daily technical support and expertise to on-site construction teams
  • Supervise and lead different workforce teams in the planning and execution of daily activities
  • Closely monitor critical installation processes such as turbine and generator alignment, bearing installation, shaft coupling, critical lifts, etc.
  • Review and interpret engineering plans, specifications, procedures and manuals
  • Verify that construction and installation work complies with studies, codes, standards and OEM requirements
  • Participate in inspections and critical quality controls (alignment, welding, grouting, etc.)
  • Support the resolution of technical non-conformities and reservations (TAC - tasks to complete)
  • Support constructability reviews and propose solutions to technical and logistical constraints
  • Coordinate specialist subcontractors for key installation tasks
  • Review and validate test results
  • Contribute to the preparation of "as built" documentation and O&M (Operation and Maintenance) handover files
  • Provide regular updates to project management regarding technical issues, risks and progress
  • Act as on-site technical point of contact for design engineers, project managers, method engineers, subcontractors and customer representatives
  • Participate in technical meetings, design clarifications and change management discussions
  • Lead or contribute to root cause analyzes of construction problems
  • Recommend technical solutions, field modifications and design optimizations when relevant
  • Capitalize on feedback and improvement opportunities for future projects and standard practices

  • Lead and direct various labour teams in the planning and execution of daily activities

Requirements

  • Engineering degree in mechanics, electricity or civil engineering, or equivalent technical discipline
  • An equivalent technical degree with significant experience in hydroelectric or power plant construction may be considered
  • Minimum of 5 years of prior experience on hydroelectric generators, preferably in a supervisory role
  • Strong technical knowledge of hydroelectric power plant systems and structures
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical installation of shaft lines, turbines or generators
  • Excellent computer skills and good command of MS Office

The Technical Field Advisor is responsible for preparing, directing and controlling the different phases of field operations for a project. This role is crucial to ensure that site works are completed safely, at the required quality standards, on time and within budget. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction sites management, strong leadership skills, and the ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently.

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Equivalent technical diploma with substantial hydro or power plant construction experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of prior hydro electric generator experience, preferably in a supervisor capacity
  • Strong technical knowledge of hydroelectric plant systems and structures
  • Minimum of 5-years in mechanical installation of shaft lines, turbines or generators
  • Excellent computer skills and MS office knowledge
