Role Summary

Electrical system studies, including but not limited to: Power transit, short circuit, relay settings and coordination, electric arcing, harmonics, ground network and motor starting analyzes and adjustments, etc.

Review and create electrical system simulations, reports and studies, recommendations.

Possess very good knowledge and develop single line diagrams, measurement and protection diagrams, underground and above ground electrical wiring, earthing plans and details, MCC MV and LV layouts, wiring diagrams, control and annunciation panel layouts, power and motor control diagrams, termination lists, interconnection wiring diagrams, UPS and emergency systems.

Determine the amperages of medium and low voltage power cables based on derating factors and voltage drop calculations.

Write specifications for power distribution equipment, analyze offers from electrical equipment suppliers and write recommendations.

Review and comment on shop drawings of equipment provided by the

suppliers.

Approve and stamp electrical drawings under the supervision of the candidate.

Perform electrical calculations.

Participate in the development of physical layout plans for electrical rooms, transformer rooms and exterior substations.

Coordinate design with other engineering disciplines to carry out

the projects.

Execute technical projects in your area of expertise. The majority of time will be used for concept and detailed engineering design

Possess good time management skills as the candidate will frequently be required to work on multiple project tasks at the same time.

Approve and stamp documents and drawings, including substation plans, electrical study reports, connection and wiring diagrams, and single-line electrical diagrams, etc.

Prepare and submit connection applications and associated design documents to power companies.

Participate in site visits for project kick-offs, site meetings and power company representatives as required.

Participate in the equipment selection and procurement process.

Apply standards, codes and regulations in the area of expertise and ensure

compliance.

Integrate safety and risk analysis into equipment designs.

Write and review technical reports and construction specifications.

Power system studies including but not limited to: Load flow, Short Circuit, relay settings and protection coordination, Arc Flash, harmonic evaluations, ground grid sizing and motor starting analyses, etc.

Review and create power system simulations, reports and studies, recommendations

Possesses very good knowledge and experience in developing single line diagrams, metering and protection diagrams, underground and above ground power cabling, grounding plans and details, MV & LV MCC layouts, cable schedules, control and annunciator panel schematics, motor power and control schematics, termination list, interconnection wiring diagrams, UPS and emergency back-up systems.

Perform high, medium and low voltage cable sizing based on ampacity, de-rating factors and voltage drop calculations,

Write specifications for power distribution equipment, perform Bid Analysis of quotations from electrical equipment suppliers, and write recommendations to purchase.

Review and make comments to shop drawings from equipment Vendors.

Approve and P.Eng seal electrical drawings for candidates under supervision.

Write and review technical reports, and construction specifications.

Requirements

  • 10 ans ou plus d'expérience professionnelle dans les études de systèmes d'alimentation électrique au sein d'un bureau d'ingénieurs-conseils pour la conception d'installations industrielles.
  • Excellentes capacités de communication verbale et écrite.
  • Membre en règle de l'Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec. L'adhésion à d'autres associations professionnelles d'ingénieurs serait un atout.
  • Déplacement sur les chantiers des clients pour recueillir des informations et participation aux réunions de revue de conception.
  • Expérience de travail sur les chantiers pour superviser les installations électriques.
  • Participer aux vérifications et aux mises en service des installations électriques.
  • Capacité à travailler dans des délais serrés et à les respecter.
  • Excellente connaissance du logiciel de modélisation numérique des systèmes électriques utilisant ETAP et EASYPOWER. La connaissance de SKM Power Tools serait un atout.
  • Démontrer des qualités de leadership et être capable de travailler de manière indépendante, de prendre des décisions et d'assumer la responsabilité de questions techniques.
  • Très bonne connaissance des outils Microsoft Office.
  • Avoir d'excellentes capacités de résolution de problèmes et de prise de décision.

Solide compréhension de l'équipement de distribution électrique industriel, des appareillages de commutation MT et BT, des sous-stations d'unités intérieures et extérieures, des transformateurs, de l'équipement de sous-station HT, des MCC, des VFD, des moteurs, des UPS, des bancs de condensateurs, des filtres harmoniques, des démarreurs progressifs, des lignes aériennes.

  • Connaissance, interprétation et application du Code canadien de l'électricité, du Code national de l'électricité et des normes électriques applicables.
  • Connaissance pratique de base de la modélisation AUTOCAD 2D et AUTOCAD PLANT 3D serait un atout.
  • Fortes compétences interpersonnelles et de communication (écrites et orales).

  • 10 years or more professional experience in electrical power systems studies working for Consulting Engineering firm in design of industrial plants
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Member in good standing with the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Quebec. Membership with other professional engineering associations would be an asset.
  • Travel to client job sites to gather information and participating in design review meetings
  • Experience working at job sites to supervise the electrical installations. Participate in electrical check-outs and start-ups.

Able to work under and meet tight deadlines

Excellent knowledge with digital power system modeling software using ETAP and EASYPOWER. Knowledge of SKM Power Tools would be an asset.

  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and ability to work independently, make decisions, and take responsibility for technical matters
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools
  • Have excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Solid understanding of industrial electrical distribution equipment, MV and LV switchgears, indoor and outdoor unit substations, transformers, HV substation equipment, MCC’s, VFD’s, motors UPS’s, capacitor banks, harmonic filters, sort-starters, overhead lines.
  • Knowledge, interpretation, and application of Canadian Electrical Code, National Electrical Code, and applicable electrical standards.
  • Basic working knowledge of AUTOCAD 2D & AUTOCAD PLANT 3D modelling would be an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
