Role Summary
As a Waste Solutions Specialist, you are the key to our mission to transform waste flows into sustainable and economic opportunities. You manage a specific portfolio of materials and waste flows, overseeing the entire chain from collection to processing. You strive for the most suitable processing solutions, always in line with the ethical and legal standards of Veolia Hazardous Waste Europe.
In this coordinating role you work closely with our back-office team (5 colleagues). You report to the Outlet Manager and you are a central factor in achieving our strategic objectives.
Responsibilities
- Waste flow management: You manage a specific portfolio and coordinate the entire chain from collection to processing. You are the hub in the collaboration between operations, sales and back-office.
- Procurement & Tenders: You take the lead in the procurement process and negotiate with processors and suppliers for the best (processing) solutions. You also coordinate and structure RFQs and tenders (including retro planning and sample analysis).
- Expertise and Advice: As an internal specialist in hazardous waste, you anticipate market changes. You advise on legislation and regulations, proactively share knowledge and train colleagues and customers.
- Risk Management & Compliance: You ensure strict compliance with (inter)national environmental legislation, HSE standards and ethical criteria of Veolia Waste Hazardous Europe. You carry out audits at processing centers, handle non-conformities and translate incidents into preventive action plans.
- Networking & Market Representation: You actively develop a relevant network, both within and outside the group (including internationally), and represent our organization at trade fairs and networking events.
- Optimization & Innovation: You analyze (new) waste flows and identify opportunities for sustainable and cost-efficient solutions. You expand the portfolio of processing solutions. You initiate improvement projects that optimize processes, reduce costs and minimize dependence on third parties.
- You play an active role in realizing our strategic ambitions. You pursue sustainability initiatives and CO2 reduction and support the internalization of processes to strengthen our market position.
Requirements
- We are looking for an analytical and results-oriented professional with a passion for the waste market.
- Education & Experience: You have a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field, supplemented with a number of years of relevant experience in waste management.
- Analytical and organizational: You understand complex waste flows and translate them into commercial and ecological opportunities. You coordinate processes between departments effortlessly.
- Decision-making and Stakeholder Management: You are decisive and constructively align the diverse interests of internal departments and external processors.
- Communicative: You switch smoothly between various stakeholders (customers, governments, processors). You speak and write excellent Dutch and English; knowledge of French is a strong asset.
- Negotiation skills: You combine strong negotiation skills with a commercial procurement approach.
- You are enterprising, results-oriented and think in systems. You are customer-oriented, work accurately under pressure and show resilience to change.
- Flexibility: You are willing to travel regularly to processors and customers. Your location is flexible (Beerse, Jumet, Ghent or Sint-Niklaas).

We are looking for a Waste Solutions Specialist for our activities in Belgium, with a specific focus on Flanders. Within the “Waste Solutions” department (internally also called the “Outlet” department) we work on sustainable, safe and cost-efficient solutions for the processing of waste flows, and in particular hazardous waste.
