Therapeutic Use Exemption Committee (TUEC) Member

Sport Integrity Canada is seeking individuals to fill the volunteer opportunity of Therapeutic Use Exemption Committee (TUEC) Member on an ongoing volunteer basis. The TUEC has a key role in implementing the Canadian Anti-Doping Program (CADP) by reviewing and evaluating athletes’ applications for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUE), which allow an athlete with a medical condition to use substances or methods that are otherwise prohibited in sport through their inclusion on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) Prohibited List. The TUEC follows WADA’s International Standard for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (ISTUE) to determine if a TUE should be granted.

POSITION DETAILS

Commitment: Review two to three TUE applications per month, with flexibility depending on application volume and specialty.

Meetings: Attend biannual TUEC meetings, which may be virtual or in person.

Location: Remote

Remuneration: The Sport Integrity Canada TUEC is composed of volunteers; no remuneration is provided.

Sport Intégrité Canada est à la recherche de personnes désireuses de se joindre, à titre bénévole et sur une base continue, à son Comité pour l’autorisation d’usage à des fins thérapeutiques (CAUT).

Le CAUT contribue au Programme canadien antidopage (PCA) en traitant les demandes d’autorisation d’usage à des fins thérapeutiques (AUT), soumises par les athlètes dont l’état de santé nécessite l’utilisation de substances ou de méthodes figurant sur la Liste des interdictions de l’Agence mondiale antidopage (AMA). Le CAUT base ses décisions sur le Standard international pour les autorisations d’usage à des fins thérapeutiques (SIAUT) de l’AMA. Sport Intégrité Canada travaille de façon collaborative afin que les Canadiens vivent des expériences sportives positives. Par ses programmes, le CCES s’attaque aux problèmes d’éthique dans le sport, protège l’intégrité du sport canadien et fait la promotion de Sport pur pour activer le sport axé sur des valeurs, sur le terrain et à l’extérieur. Responsabilités principales

Analyse des demandes: évaluer les demandes d’AUT des athlètes conformément au SIAUT et à ses lignes directrices.

Decision-making: judge TUE applications in an informed, professional and impartial manner, all in the best interests of the athletes, the sport and the organization.

Collaboration: work together with other members of the CAUT and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Compliance: observe the values, principles and policies of Sport Integrity Canada while maintaining confidentiality and following the technical procedure provided by the SIAUT.

POSITION DETAILS

Commitment: process between two and three TUE requests per month (workload may vary depending on the number and specificity of requests received).

Meetings: participate in the biannual meetings (virtual or in person) of the CAUT.

Location: teleworking.

Remuneration: the Sport Integrity Canada CAUT is made up of volunteers; the position is therefore not paid.

Responsibilities

  • Review Applications: Evaluate and make determinations on TUE applications from athletes, ensuring adherence to the ISTUE and its guidelines, as appropriate.
  • Decision Making: Use professional judgement to provide unbiased opinions and make impartial decisions in the best interest of athletes, sport, and the organization.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with fellow TUEC members and liaise effectively with other stakeholders.
  • Adherence: Uphold Sport Integrity Canada values, principles, and policies while maintaining confidentiality and following technical procedures as per the ISTUE.

Requirements

  • Medical Degree: M.D. or equivalent qualification.
  • Professional Experience: Demonstrated experience in sport medicine or related fields.
  • Expertise: Specialists in psychiatry (ADHD/ADD), pain management, cardiology, or general sports medicine.
  • Integrity: Impeccable ethical standards and confidentiality

Desired Skills

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required; French language skills are an asset.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze complex cases and apply logical reasoning.
  • Detail Oriented: Ability to follow protocols and procedures with precision.
  • Confidentiality: Proven track record of managing sensitive information with discretion
