Role Summary

Within the BU CIS – Portfolio CIS team, our Technical Documentation coordinator is responsible for organizing and producing Operator Manuals, Safety Manuals and Maintenance Manuals for X-ray scanners designed by Smiths Detection, systems for inspecting heavy cargo and vehicles at ports and borders.

Responsibilities

  • Organize the activity of the Documentation Team, and the Technical Editors composing it
  • Manage associated business suppliers (translation company, printing company, software publisher, etc.)
  • Ensure that manuals are produced in accordance with budgets and schedules, while respecting the constraints of customer programs and product priorities
  • Plan and respect cost, quality and deadline commitments for one or more projects
  • Carry out load estimates for the roadmap and calls for tenders
  • Participate in internal technical meetings
  • Participate in the identification of Maintenance Manuals necessary for the Service Team
  • Write, deliver or manage the layout of Operator Manuals, Safety Manuals, Maintenance Manuals
  • Collect and understand the necessary information from the company's various Business Experts

Produce the photos, drawings and diagrams necessary to illustrate these Manuals.

Requirements

Technical knowledge and skills desired

  • BAC +2/3 training minimum
  • Technical Writer Training
  • Experience as a technical writer of at least 4 years in the IT, electrotechnical or automation fields

Skills

  • Very good skills in using Word software, Adobe Acrobat software, XML (Cosima)
  • Good skills in using drawing and image editing software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Designer, etc.).
  • Mastery in English and technical French essential: written and oral

Qualifications required

  • Ability to supervise technical writers making up the documentation team and manage priorities
  • Ability to organize and report the activity of the documentation team
  • Strong skills in Illustration (photos, drawing, diagram, layout)
  • Ability to propose and write illustrated and explicit manuals, while respecting our quality and planning objectives
  • Ability to write Manuals for several projects in parallel
  • Ability to report progress and justify design choices

Have a spirit of synthesis, be autonomous and curious.
