Role Summary
A day in the life of a terminal operator at SGS:
The person holding this position is responsible for performing and/or coordinating all functions relating to site operations. The terminal operator must ensure the reliability of the equipment, the supply/delivery system, and that safety, environmental protection, quality and organizational controls are compliant.
This position requires personnel to perform loading and unloading of ships, railcars, or other modes of transportation and to perform connection/disconnection of these modes of transportation from associated processing equipment that is used to transfer customers' products and raw materials. The shipper will also be responsible for preparing these modes of transport for shipment and completing the necessary documents and checklists.
- Work with several types of vessels (rail, maritime, pipeline and trucks).
- Carry out the reception, transfer and shipping of products.
- Complete logbooks, complete administrative forms and other documents.
- Carry out site inspections for safety, environmental and commercial reasons.
- Prepare work orders and MOCs.
- Communicate with Facilities Supervisor about issues as they occur.
- Unload the trucks for delivery of fuel to the storage tank.
- Connect ground braids and hoses for unloading trucks.
- Verify that the product received matches the product indicated on the truck manifest.
- Ensure that the hollow/full measurements comply with the standards imposed by the Ministry of Transport for the vessel targeted by the loading.
- Perform maintenance on pumps, valves and motors.
- Perform power-on, power-off and troubleshooting of processing equipment.
- Isolate the product, and follow lockout/tagout procedures.
- Carry out visual inspection of the wagons to ensure mechanical solidity.
- Check for any defects before commencing unloading/loading activities.
- Use, calibration and verification before use of the instrumentation.
- Perform groundwater analysis and monitoring.
- Carry out inspection and surveillance of maritime vessels.
- Carry out the collection, reading and analysis of samples.
- Monitor site computerized surveillance systems.
Requirements
- Education: A high school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
- Experience: A minimum of two years of relevant work experience or equivalent experience obtained through studies.
- Having previous work experience in a field related to oil refineries would be considered an asset.
- Ability and willingness to work rotating on-call shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime.
- Have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Be comfortable working outside.
- Ability to manage and coordinate several projects at once in a very dynamic and professional environment.
- Ability to work in a group situation and independently.
- The person holding this position must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions while respecting safety instructions.
- Recognized time management skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Overtime and shifts are to be expected on occasion.
- Travel to other SGS offices is expected on occasion.
