Develop, coordinate and deliver student engagement programs, events and activities that enhance the student experience and support student participation, belonging and retention.

Reporting to the Team Lead SLAM, the Student Engagement Officer develops, coordinates, delivers and evaluates student engagement programs, events and activities that enhance the student experience and support successful transition to tertiary study.

Working collaborativelyacross Melbourne Polytechnic, you will use student feedback and student voice to develop initiatives responsive to the needs of diverse student cohorts. You will coordinate the end-to-end delivery of student events and activities, including stakeholder engagement, communications, resources, budgets and casual staffing.

This role also contributes specialist knowledge and practical advice on student engagement and event delivery, working across teaching areas, Student Services and other departments to support positive student experiences, participation, belonging and retention.

  • Coordinate transition and orientation activities, including Campus Welcomes, Higher Education student orientation and other initiatives that support new students to integrate successfully into Melbourne Polytechnic
  • Manage multiple events and activities concurrently through the full event lifecycle, coordinating plans, timelines, documentation and operational requirements
  • Proactively seek and analyse student feedback and student voice to inform future programs and implement improvements in response to emerging student needs
  • Work collaboratively with teaching departments and other service areas to connect the broader student experience with learning and educational outcomes, and provide students with information and access to relevant services where appropriate
  • Build effective relationships with community organisations, industry partners, sponsors, suppliers and other stakeholders and coordinate their involvement in student engagement programs and activities
  • Coordinate event communications and documentation and contribute content for social media and other student communication channels
  • Coordinate event logistics, resources, suppliers, procurement and service providers, monitor expenditure against allocated budgets and support payment and reconciliation processes
  • Recruit, onboard, train and supervise casual staff and student placements as required, including rostering, allocation of duties, timesheets and appropriate guidance and support
  • Support safe and professional event delivery, maintaining appropriate records and documentation and exercising judgement and initiative to resolve operational matters or escalate more complex issues where required

Requirements

Demonstrated experience in the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of events, recreational activities, student engagement initiatives and/or community development programs

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage multiple events, programs or activities concurrently from initial planning through to delivery and evaluation
  • Highly developed organisational, planning and prioritisation skills, with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong event coordination and logistical skills, including experience coordinating resources, suppliers, procurement and event documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with students and develop initiatives responsive to the needs of diverse student cohorts

Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build productive relationships across internal teams, community organisations, partners, suppliers and other stakeholders

  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including presentation, facilitation and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to gather, interpret and respond to stakeholder or participant feedback and use evaluation findings to improve programs and activities
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and judgement, resolve operational issues and appropriately escalate complex matters
  • Experience coordinating, supervising, training and allocating work to casual employees, volunteers and/or student placements
  • Sound administrative and financial management skills, including monitoring expenditure, coordinating supplier payments and maintaining accurate records
  • Ability to prepare clear communications and contribute content for digital, social media and other student communication channels
  • Ability to manage own workload and adopt flexible work practices to meet operational and event requirements
