Software Engineer, Mobile

Role Summary

Replit is the agentic software creation platform that enables anyone to build applications using natural language. With millions of users worldwide, Replit is democratizing software development by removing traditional barriers to application creation.

In this role, you will shape our end to end user experience (where user builds and publishes native mobile applications, and also uses the Replit mobile app to build apps), build innovative new features and interactions, and enable anyone with a phone to create software for their phones and assist with our mobile UI/UX. Our mobile app is built with Typescript, React, React Native, Expo, and Apollo/GraphQL, Swift, and Kotlin.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with a team of designers, mobile and UX engineers to streamline the mobile app towards AI-first creation.
• Introduce new features that make creation on mobile easier and faster.
• Improve the quality and observability of the app.
• Proactively identify what our software creators need to make building on mobile delightful.

Requirements

We're looking for mobile-focused developers who can thrive in a React Native environment and are also passionate about mobile UI/UX. You fit this role if you match one of these profiles:

1. The React Native Expert

You're an experienced React Native developer with a proven track record of shipping mobile apps, with a keen eye for mobile UI/UX.

1. The Mobile Web Specialist

You have deep experience with mobile web development and understand the unique challenges of mobile interfaces, performance optimization, and responsive design. You're passionate about UX/UI and ready to transition your mobile expertise to React Native development.

1. The Native Developer Exploring Cross-Platform

You're a skilled mobile native developer (iOS/Android) who's interested in exploring React Native as a cross-platform solution. You bring valuable native platform knowledge and are open to learning TypeScript-based development.

1. You can demonstrate 5+ years of professional software development experience, including:
2. Experience optimizing UI rendering performance
3. Experience debugging and deploying iOS or Android apps
4. You are comfortable or excited to build with React/CSS and React Native.
5. You are familiar with UI/UX patterns on iOS or Android

1. You’ve built and shipped your own apps to the world

This is a full-time role that can be held from our Foster City, CA office. The hybrid role has an in-office requirement of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

About the Company

HOW WE WORK

Structure: We operate as a collective of in-house technical founders, not narrowly specialized engineers. Initiatives are run by lean, autonomous teams built for velocity and technical leverage. Engineers maintain meaningful ownership over technical direction, product quality, and launch success, supported by Product and Design partners.

Cadence: We work in focused three-week sprints, shipping quickly, observing real user behavior, and incorporating feedback into each iteration. We value decisive execution, thoughtful experimentation, and the ability to make progress without perfectly defined requirements.
