Role Summary

The role / impact

You'll engineer AI-enabled solutions that make Xero's Productivity and Collaboration ecosystem smarter, safer and more scalable. You'll solve complex technical problems, contribute to engineering standards, and support other team members whilst building integrations, workflows, and guardrails that connect internal AI tools to the right systems and data. This role acts as a key point of contact for our production environment-you'll own significant technical challenges rather than work through a support queue.

Your technical work will focus on current projects rather than routine tasks. You'll shape how AI tools interact with our productivity ecosystem, working across tools like Atlassian, Google Workspace, and Slack. Whilst mentoring is encouraged, this position is designed for people who want to stay hands-on and technical.

The team / how they connect

The Productivity and Collaboration team (PAC) is responsible for keeping Xero's internal productivity ecosystem running smoothly and innovatively. We work collaboratively across regions, primarily Australia and New Zealand, with active partnerships with teams in the US and Canada. Our team is diverse, supportive, and committed to solving technical challenges that matter.

  • The team is currently working on / Initially, you will focus on
  • Engineering AI-enabled automation that reduces manual toil and improves efficiency
  • Building and maintaining integrations across Atlassian, Google Workspace, Slack, and emerging AI tools
  • Contributing to technical standards and architectural decisions for our systems
  • Establishing reliability improvements and ownership of key system documentation
  • Where and how you can work

This role is based in Vancouver. You'll work in a hybrid environment with team stand-ups and meetings happening weekly. We encourage regular collaboration with your team, though you'll have the autonomy to structure your days effectively. The biggest challenge in this role will be maintaining strong connections with limited time zone overlap across some of our team locations-we embrace asynchronous collaboration and focus on clear communication to bridge those gaps.

Here are some of the things we are looking for

You bring strong interpersonal skills and a confident, friendly approach to solving technical problems. You're someone who can support the right technical solution even when facing pushback or challenges, staying positive and solution-focused.

You have hands-on experience with automation and scripting in Python, PowerShell, and Bash, along with solid integration and API design knowledge. You're comfortable working with cloud-based productivity systems and understand security best practices.

You're adept at leveraging AI-powered tools to enhance task efficiency and automate repetitive work. You communicate clearly -both written and verbally -and can articulate trade-offs and decisions.

You thrive in a diverse team environment and bring a genuine enthusiasm for collaboration. Beyond your technical capability, you contribute positively to team culture through openness and a willingness to mentor others.

Apply even if your experience isn't a perfect match! At Xero, we hire based on your skills, passion, and the unique perspective you can bring to enhance our culture and team.

Go Bold. We encourage you to challenge the status quo and push boundaries. Go Fast. We move with purpose and urgency. Go Together. We succeed through collaboration and mutual support. These aren't just values- they're how we work every day.

Compensation & Total Rewards

At Xero, we value the impact and skills you bring to the team. We believe in a Total Package philosophy - ensuring your value is recognized through a holistic lens that includes base salary, performance incentives, and world-class benefits.
