Role Summary
The quality engineering role involves designing, implementing and maintaining quality assurance methodologies, controls and inspection protocols to ensure that materials and manufacturing processes consistently meet established specifications, regulatory requirements and product quality standards from in-process stages through final production.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for handling customer complaints.
- Conducts investigations with the engineering department.
- Follow up with various departments to ensure corrective actions are taken to resolve customer issues in a timely manner.
- Provides status updates to the Quality Manager on work progress.
- Works proactively as part of a team to assist in continuous improvement in a fast-paced work environment.
- Positive attitude and have a good relationship with team members and other departments.
- Performing First Article Inspections (FAI).
Requirements
- Hold a bachelor's degree in quality engineering or a related field
- Have between 3 and 5 years of experience in quality engineering in a company in the electronics sector
- Demonstrate strong technical knowledge and an interest in learning new technologies
- Be familiar with Six Sigma methodologies
- Have experience conducting surveys using 8D methodologies (Ishikawa, 5 whys)
- Have basic knowledge of statistical analyzes
- Have basic knowledge of aerospace regulations (AS9100, ISO 9001)
- Knowledge of the field of electrostatic discharge (ESD) – an asset
- Experience in physical installation of ESD equipment – an asset
- Ability to communicate in English and French
- Knowledge of contract review activities
- Experience in carrying out audits according to quality standards (AS9100, ISO 9001)
- Training experience – an asset
- Knowledge of the use of measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, microscopes) – an asset
- Ability to lift loads up to 50 lbs
- Controlled goods and technologies
In this position, you will be required to examine, handle or transfer highly confidential equipment and technology, including technical data or any form of technical assistance (such as instructions or training) classified as controlled goods. These goods are of military or strategic importance, are essential to national security and are strictly regulated under the Defense Production Act (DPA) and the Controlled Goods Regulations (CGR), as part of Canada's Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
As a condition precedent to an offer of employment, you will be required to agree to submit to a security assessment conducted by the designated representative of Smiths Interconnect Canada, in accordance with the requirements of the CAP and the HPA. This assessment includes, among other things, verification of citizenship or permanent resident status, a criminal record check and other security checks. Disclosure of controlled goods to unauthorized persons is a criminal offense under Canadian law; you will therefore need to strictly comply with all applicable laws regarding controlled goods.

- Perform all work safely and respect all health and safety requirements, in support of the company's objectives
- Follow lifting guidelines as directed in the health and safety manual
- Respect all environmental requirements linked to the company's environmental performance objectives
- Complete and actively participate in all required environmental, health and safety (EHS) training
The work environment is typically located at a Smiths location during regular or extended hours, including offices, manufacturing plants and repair centers. It can also include customer sites and meeting locations. Noise levels are generally high on the production floor and the wearing of approved personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
