Role Summary
The Quality Control function at Smiths Interconnect supports manufacturing operations by performing receiving, in-process and final inspections to ensure products meet internal requirements, customer requirements and regulatory requirements.
The role includes performing Customer Source Inspections (CSI), First Article Inspections (FAI), High Reliability Testing, and other quality-related activities while contributing to compliance, continuous improvement, and on-time delivery goals.
Responsibilities
- Perform inspection upon receipt of raw materials and components
- Perform in-process inspections and final inspections in accordance with drawings, procedures and specifications
- Perform Customer Source Inspections (CSI) and First Article Inspections (FAI)
- Perform visual inspections using microscopes and precision tools
- Handle and test highly sensitive and delicate equipment in order to define quality criteria
- Accurately collect, document and maintain inspection and test data
- Prepare certificates of conformity (CoC) and customer-specific quality documentation
- Maintain product serialization and traceability records
- Follow documented data collection and retention procedures
- Identify, document and report non-compliance
- Initiate and support corrective actions (NCR/CAR)
- Participate in root cause analyzes and verification of corrective actions
- Assist with supplier evaluations and handling quality issues upon receipt
- Support internal and external ISO audits by providing required documentation and inspection evidence
- Support contract review activities related to quality requirements
- Perform minor mechanical assembly, labeling and final packaging of products
- Prepare finished products for transfer to warehouse or shipping
- Contribute to achieving daily and weekly shipping goals
- Comply with the company's quality management system, health and safety requirements and security requirements
- Perform any other quality-related tasks as needed
Requirements
- Training requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent – required
- Professional or technical training in manufacturing, electronics or mechanical inspection – an asset
- Additional Qualifications
- Experience in internal audits – an asset
- Experience in PCB/PCBA inspection – an asset
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in quality control, manufacturing or inspection
- Technical knowledge and skills
- Basic knowledge of quality control principles, inspection methods and manufacturing processes
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, procedures and work instructions
- Knowledge of visual inspection techniques, including the use of microscopes and magnification tools for fine and precision components
- Familiarity with serialization, labeling, traceability and documentation requirements in a regulated manufacturing environment
- Understanding of product conformity, identification of non-conformities and corrective action processes (NCR/CAR)
- Basic computer skills for data entry, inspection records and quality documentation systems
- Ability to handle and test delicate, sensitive or high reliability components while respecting product integrity and cleanliness standards
Ability to use measuring tools such as calipers, depth gauges, etc.
- Excellent knowledge of AS9102 first article inspections

In this position, you will be required to examine, handle or transfer highly confidential equipment and technology, including technical data or any form of technical assistance (such as instructions or training) classified as controlled goods. These goods are of military or strategic importance, are essential to national security and are strictly regulated under the Defense Production Act (DPA) and the Controlled Goods Regulations (CGR), as part of Canada's Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
As a condition precedent to an offer of employment, you will be required to agree to submit to a security assessment conducted by the designated representative of Smiths Interconnect Canada, in accordance with the requirements of the CAP and the HPA. This assessment includes, among other things, verification of citizenship or permanent resident status, a criminal record check and other security checks. Disclosure of controlled goods to unauthorized persons is a criminal offense under Canadian law; you will therefore need to strictly comply with all applicable laws regarding controlled goods.

- Compliance with cleanroom dressing protocols (full suits, masks, gloves) and maintaining a clean and organized inspection area
- Compliance with Quebec occupational health and safety regulations, internal policies and ISO aligned procedures
- Compliance with safe handling and storage requirements for sensitive, delicate or controlled products
- Compliance with environmental and waste management procedures related to inspection, testing and packaging activities
- Ability to sit for long periods of time (minimum 2 hours)
- Ability to move to all areas of the office
Ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs.
- Ability to bend, reach, kneel, turn and grasp objects at a workstation
- Sufficient manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and complete tasks despite frequent interruptions
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English and French
- Must be able to respond to visual and auditory cues.
- Perform all work safely and comply with all health and safety requirements, in support of the company's objectives.
- Follow lifting guidelines in accordance with the manual lifting guidelines outlined in the health and safety manual.
- Comply with all environmental requirements, consistent with the company's environmental performance objectives.
- Complete and actively participate in all other required environmental, health and safety (EHS) training.
The work environment is typically located at a Smiths location during regular or extended hours, including offices, manufacturing plants and repair centers. It can also include customer sites and meeting places. Noise levels are generally high on the production floor, and the wearing of approved PPE is required.
