Responsibilities
- Perform daily review of a sample of mortgage applications (before and after disbursement) to ensure compliance with underwriting standards, nesto Group policies and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate all data elements, financial documents, customer information, broker and insurer transmissions, and legal documents to note any deviations from policies.
- Spot patterns of unusual behavior, suspicious transactions and document legitimacy via insurer “hot files” and internal references.
- Conduct preliminary investigations and take necessary action on suspicious files to reduce the risk of loss and misrepresentation.
- Prepare quality assurance reports detailing findings and recommendations, and conduct in-depth analyzes as requested by Risk Management or QA.
- Support audits with partners, investors and insurers, from initial preparation to resolution of problematic items.
- Assist in the management, periodic monitoring and review of approved lists (appraisers, notaries/lawyers, brokers, suppliers) and anti-money laundering (AML) lists.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews regularly, quickly, efficiently and objectively.
- Provide advice, opinions and recommendations to underwriting staff and stakeholders regarding credit risks, loss mitigation, flood/property risks and training opportunities.
Who we are looking for
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in mortgage loan approval/adjudication. Experience in the mortgage broker channel, an asset.
- Tools & Technical Mastery: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, SharePoint), Google Workspace (GDrive, Sheets, Docs), CRM and workflow tools (Salesforce).
- Domain knowledge: Solid understanding of insurer guidelines, internal and external, as well as a good knowledge of the implications, methods of detection and prevention of fraud.
- Key Skills: Analytical thinking and well-developed negotiation and problem-solving skills to spot trends and anomalies in underwriting practices.
- Autonomy & Decision Making: Ability to work independently with limited supervision, manage and prioritize urgent requests, and make unpopular recommendations when required.
- Language & Communication: Fluent bilingualism (French and English) desired to support clients nationally, with excellent ability to communicate findings to management and underwriters.
- Review an adequate daily sampling of mortgage applications post-funding and pre-funding to ensure compliance with nesto Group policies, underwriting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Assess file data elements, financial documents, client information, broker file transmissions, insurer transmissions, and miscellaneous legal documentation to identify policy deviations.
- Identify patterns of unusual behavior, suspicious transactions, and documentation validity via “Heads up Files” from external insurers and internal referrals.
- Conduct preliminary investigations and necessary actions on suspect files to mitigate misrepresentation risk and loss.
- Prepare QA reports with findings and recommendations on suspicious or irregular activity files, as well as execute further analysis as directed by Risk or QA Management.
- Support audits with partners, investors, and insurers, spanning from preparation to audit finding resolution.
- Assist in the management, periodic control, and review of approved lists for Appraisers, Solicitors, Brokers, Vendors, and AML lists.
- Execute QA/QC reviews regularly on a timely, efficient, and objective basis.
- Provide guidance, opinions, and recommendations to underwriting staff and stakeholders on credit issues, loss mitigation, flood/property risk, and training opportunities.
Who we are looking for
