Role Summary

Who will you work with?

The project management team contributes to the success of projects by working with the various stakeholders and providing vigilance on the status of all project-related activities while supporting the various departments to ensure that the general objectives of the projects are respected.

How will you make the difference?

As a member of the project management team, the project manager is responsible for the overall performance of the contracts under his responsibility in terms of delivery times, budgetary control and compliance with contractual requirements.

The project manager ensures a good relationship between the client and the various stakeholders of each project assigned to him. The incumbent provides regular reporting to the client and the management team on the projects under his responsibility, including weekly and monthly reports, risk registers and key performance indicators and is in charge of the project plans.

Responsibilities

  • What will your typical day look like?
  • Produce project monitoring documentation, including master plans and project plans;
  • Develop the specific schedule for each project based on the schedules of the various departments to ensure appropriate transmission of the different stages of the project and allow stakeholders to understand the critical paths;
  • Achieving the goals and objectives of each project through a healthy relationship with all stakeholders;
  • Ensure that the projects under his responsibility follow standard processes, that all project stages are executed on time and with the expected level of quality (completed information, action plans);
  • Manage and monitor the relationship with clients through appropriate reporting, and regular meetings and conference calls;
  • Specify, with internal teams, the scope of work before obtaining customer acceptance. The holder is responsible for explaining and justifying variations in mandates and ensuring that they are well defined with the client;
  • Address customer dissatisfaction with the team and management of the organization to find solutions while respecting scope, budget and deadlines;

Develop an effective communications plan for each assigned project that enables European and North American stakeholders to share progress and challenges, understand and manage risks, respond to customer requests in a timely manner, and share knowledge and expertise through problem-solving exercises;

  • In collaboration with the project teams, ensure that the potential risks linked to each project are clearly identified and quantified (impact, probability, costs, mitigation, etc.);
  • Lead project monitoring meetings with management to report on progress, issues and opportunities for improvement, status of risks, current and future action plans, specific needs and objectives, financial situation, etc.

  • With the project teams, ensure effective management and compliance with the various budget items associated with the program;
  • When items are late, work with teams to identify gaps and their causes, develop action plans to minimize impacts and avoid repeated delays, and find and implement permanent solutions.
  • You may also be required to carry out other tasks outside your role or profession, for which adequate training will be provided to you if necessary.

The Project Manager also warrants a sound relationship between the customer and the various stakeholders of each project under his responsibility. The incumbent provides the customer and the management teams with regular project reports, including weekly and monthly reports, risk registers and key performance indicators, and is in charge of the Project plans.

  • Develops the project specific schedules based on the schedules of the various departments to ensure appropriate transmission of the various milestones of the project and allow stakeholders to understand critical paths.
  • Is responsible for achieving project goals and objectives through a sound relationship with all stakeholders.
  • Is responsible to ensure that the projects follow the standard processes, ensuring that all projects go through the stages on time and with the quality level expected.
  • Is responsible for managing and controlling the relationship with the customers through appropriate reporting, regular meetings, and conference calls.
  • Clarifies, with the internal teams, the scope of the work before obtaining customer buy-in. The incumbent is responsible to explain and justify scope changes and ensures they are well defined with the customer.
  • Addresses customer dissatisfactions with the teams and with management in the organization to find solutions while respecting scope, budget and schedule.
  • Develops an effective communication plan for each of the projects under his responsibility, allowing all stakeholders to share progress and issues, understand and address risks, respond to customer requests in a timely manner, and share knowledge and expertise in problem-solving exercises.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in project management or program management;
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the manufacturing or rail transportation field.
  • Very good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and contract administration.
  • Be a good motivator and team player, share your experience and expertise;
  • Know how to demonstrate exemplary leadership, through respect for others, openness, honesty, mentoring, positive influence and flexibility;
  • Must be bilingual, English and French;
  • Available to travel to the United States on occasion;
  • Valid driving license;
  • PMP certification, an asset;

Knowledge of French is required for positions permanently located in Quebec so that the incumbent can communicate as necessary with colleagues and suppliers in Quebec. Training in French is offered to any holder of a permanent position in Quebec who does not have a good knowledge of French.

Other language requirement

  • English is required for this position in order to be able to communicate with clients, partners and colleagues who are mainly located outside Quebec.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the manufacturing industry or rail transit.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and contract administration.

French-language training is offered to all incumbents in permanent positions in Quebec who do not have a good knowledge of French.

Fluent English is required for this position in order to communicate with colleagues, clients and partners (or suppliers) located outside Quebec and to understand the technical and scientific documentation available in fields relevant to our industry.
