Role Summary

To support this mission, Syngenta's Hiring Team is looking for a Plant Engineer (m/f/d) in Münchwilen, Switzerland. In this role you will support us with the following tasks:
- Supporting the sustainable and safe implementation of daily operational activities in the Formulation Pilot Plant (FPP)
- Responsible for the management of technical systems
- Support in technical and security-related matters
- Responsible for optimizing existing production processes
- Actively contribute to continuous improvement and innovation initiatives and maintain awareness of new technologies
Safety Officer – Health, Safety and Environment (40%)
Risk Assessment & HSE Compliance – Conducting HAZOP, ATEX and Workplace Risk Assessments (WRA); ensure compliance with work permits (PTW); participate in incident investigations (RCA); Promote a proactive safety culture
Engineering Change Management (MoC) – Initiate, evaluate, coordinate and close all changes to plants and systems through structured change control
Requirements
Factory engineer (60%)
- Equipment Inspection and Preventive Maintenance - Establishing/reviewing PM schedules, ensuring compliance with regulatory inspections, coordinating regulatory inspections, tracking results through to closure, and minimizing unplanned downtime
- Act as primary contact for FPP technical projects (taking into account HSE Codes of Practices)
- Budget planning and cost control - Prepare annual budget estimates for equipment consumption, control expenses, support investment justifications, review supplier invoices and identify cost savings opportunities
- Support operations and maintenance teams - Provide hands-on technical support during technical incidents, perform root cause tree analysis and follow-up; Interface between the pilot plant and supporting maintenance and equipment functions
- Commissioning of new equipment – Participate in FAT/SAT, verify installations against specifications, coordinate commissioning activities and ensure complete documentation prior to approval
- Reporting & KPI Monitoring – Define and track engineering KPIs, analyze outage and downtime trends, report in tier meetings, and maintain accurate SAP PM data
- Spare Parts and Procurement Support – Define and maintain lists of critical spare parts, provide technical specifications, and support qualification for suppliers
- Degree in mechanical engineering or a related field or equivalent professional qualification and/or relevant experience
- Fluent German language skills to be able to work effectively in a German-speaking environment. Preferably fluent English or at least B2 level. Communication between multiple functions to coordinate to solve the problem.
- Swiss industrial safety regulations (ATEX directives, pressure equipment directive, machinery directive, MSRT, PPE compliance, OEL, exposure measurements)
- Management of Change (MoC) processes
- Permit to Work (PtW) and HAZOP methodology
- P&ID understanding and interpretation of technical/technical drawings
- Failure analysis of devices and methods for investigating the cause
- Preventive and condition-based maintenance principles
- Energy management across power plants (compressed air, N₂, steam, cooling water, electricity)
- Budget and cost center management (CapEx/OpEx)
