Role Summary
Article development entry
Advise on material selection (paper, board, specialty substrates), print finishes (varnishes, coatings, laminations) and structural design to ensure feasibility, cost-effectiveness and optimal print quality.
Participate in prototype review and provide feedback from a production standpoint.
Security and Compliance
Comply with all safety protocols and procedures in the printing environment, including proper use of PPE.
Ensure compliance with quality standards and company policies.
Responsibilities
- Validate the operation of the printing plates and masters on the press.
- Mix and adjust inks to achieve specific colors, ensuring accurate color matching and consistency throughout the print run.
- Load the paper into the press, adjusting the feed and tension controls.
- Set up and operate offset printing presses for single-color and multi-color jobs.
- Calibrate press settings for different print jobs, including ink flow, water balance, and registration.
Participation in prepress
- Collaborate with the prepress department to review.
- Identify potential issues with artwork, color profiles, fonts, or resolution that could impact print quality or production efficiency.
- Provide feedback to prepress and design teams regarding optimal file preparation for offset printing, including color capture, imposition, and separation considerations.
Quality control
- Perform pre-production testing and pull proofs to verify ink coverage, density, alignment, and registration.
- Inspect printed materials for defects, ensuring that all results meet client and company quality standards.
- Monitor print quality throughout the production process, making adjustments as necessary to maintain color accuracy, registration, and overall print clarity.

ABOUT YOUR ACTIVITIES
The Offset Printing Technician is a qualified professional responsible for the setup, operation and maintenance of offset presses to produce high-quality printed materials. This position requires a solid knowledge of printing processes, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical and quality problems. The technician also plays a crucial role in the prepress phase, collaborating to ensure print readiness and may participate in item development to optimize designs for efficient, high-quality printing. Work closely with prepress and finishing departments to ensure smooth workflow and timely delivery of printed products.
- Desirable to have a technical or preparatory career.
- 2 years or more of related experience.
- Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, and feature-specific software.
- Good mathematical and analytical skills.
- Good verbal and written skills.
- Good organization and attention to detail.
- Ability to interact with cross-functional groups to define and execute general requirements.
- Familiarity with documentation and process improvement.
