job description
Digital learning products for riders worldwide
At wehorse, as a sports tech company, we develop digital products that help riders learn, train and get better together with their horses. Imagine a mix of Duolingo and Strava: high-quality video courses, mobile learning, community, tracking features and AI-powered experiences that make training progress tangible.
For our product engineering team we are looking for a mobile engineer with a clear focus on mobile. The role suits you if you are strong in React Native, build really good mobile apps and have enough React and Next.js experience to work on our web platform if necessary.
You will work with us to develop the future of our app, especially around rider and horse tracking and AI features, while also ensuring that our web platform remains stable and maintained. Of course, you don't need any experience with horses or riding.
Your tasks
You build, maintain and improve our React Native app
You work in a team with frontend and backend engineers, product owners and designers
You develop mobile-first features around tracking, training progress and AI
You implement product and design ideas into a clean, well-thought-out mobile UX
You maintain and improve our Next.js web frontend where necessary
You carefully find your way around an existing codebase and further develop it
You use AI coding tools throughout the entire development process
You make pragmatic decisions about architecture, maintainability, performance and speed
You review code and help make our frontend and mobile practices better
job requirements
At least 3 years of practical experience with React Native in a professional team
Solid experience with React and Next.js to collaborate on our web platform if required
Good feel for architecture, refactoring, technical debt and maintainability
Experience with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor or similar tools
Confident handling of modern deployment workflows and cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS
Strong debugging, problem solving and code reading skills
Clear communication and a pragmatic, uncomplicated working style
Ability to work independently and well in a remote-first environment
Willingness to come to the office for team events
Openness to feedback, learning and continuous improvement
Fluent in German and English
Nice to have
Experience with native iOS or Android development
Experience mentoring other developers
Experience in small teams with a high level of personal responsibility
How we work
We are a small team of very capable people, so every developer has real impact. Personal responsibility, well-thought-out communication and constant improvement are more important to us than cumbersome processes.
It is important to us to understand before we change. This means: We prefer developers who first familiarize themselves with the product, users and existing architecture before suggesting major rewrites.
We also work with modern, AI-supported development workflows. We expect you to use AI tools as leverage - while still applying your own engineering judgment, critical thinking and responsibility for the end result.
What we offer
An open, welcoming culture: We are a friendly team that enjoys working together. Clear communication, mutual support and problem solving without ego and politics are important to us.
High impact: As part of a small team, your work directly shapes the product and the company.
A product with purpose: We build something that our users really care about and that they enjoy using.
Remote-first flexibility: Our engineering team works remotely-first. You can work completely remotely or use our Hamburg office if you prefer. We value independent work, but regularly come together for team events to exchange ideas and have fun.
Our tech stack
Web: Next.js
Mobile: React Native with Kotlin and Swift customizations
Backend and infrastructure: PHP, Python, JavaScript, AWS
