Role Summary

  • Mechanization employee in the Open Ground vegetable testing fields
  • Type: Permanent, full-time (38 hours per week)
  • Department: Research & Development Vegetables
  • Location: Zeewolde, Netherlands
  • In action

Do you enjoy working with modern agricultural machinery and do you immediately see the results of your work in the field? In this versatile position you contribute to carefully constructed test fields that form the basis for our breeding activities. You work in a close-knit team, with varied work and plenty of room to develop further in mechanization.

The challenge

As a Mechanization Employee you work at our location in Zeewolde. Together with six permanent colleagues and a flexible group of temporary workers, you ensure well-maintained test fields and reliable implementation of our research activities.

Mechanization work is an important part of your job. You support the mechanization specialist with activities such as sowing, planting bed preparation, mechanical weed control, irrigation, transport and the preparation, conversion and maintenance of tractors and implements.

At the same time, you spend about half of your time active on the test fields. You provide support with test field and cultivation technical activities, such as sowing, planting, crop care, labeling, numbering, sampling and harvesting. We work with test fields for our breeding activities; therefore quality, precision and careful work are essential for reliable data collection.

Specifically, you are concerned with

  • supporting the mechanization specialist with work with tractors, implements and other machines in the field;
  • preparing, converting, maintaining and, where necessary, repairing tractors and implements;
  • carrying out test field work and cultivation technical activities, such as sowing, planting, crop care, labeling and harvesting;
  • working carefully according to test field layouts, so that plants, labels, numbers and products are not mixed with each other;

supporting transport and logistics work on and around the location.

You also bring

  • affinity with agricultural machinery and field work;
  • an accurate and quality-oriented way of working;
  • flexibility to take on mechanization work as well as test field and cultivation technical work;
  • a tractor license and preferably a trailer license and forklift certificate;

a spraying license, or the willingness to obtain this through Syngenta.

Working days usually start around 7:30 AM and end between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM. During peak periods you may occasionally work longer.

Requirements

You are practical, like to work outside and enjoy a varied role in which you work with machines as well as on the test fields. You work carefully, tackle work independently and are willing to assist where necessary at that moment.
