Role Summary

Legal Editor

Do you want to put your legal expertise at the service of the primacy of law and the development of legal knowledge? LexisNexis Canada is looking for candidates to fill a legal editor position as soon as possible.

This position is intended for professionals who wish to apply their analytical skills and understanding of the law to the development and management of legal publications. The Legal Editor plays a key role in developing legal textbooks, managing an assigned portfolio of publications, working closely with recognized authors, and contributing to the publication of leading reference works relied upon by the legal community. This is an editorial role, distinct from the traditional practice of law and from legal writing.

  • Reporting to the Editorial Manager, Canada Analytical Content, the position will include the following key responsibilities:
  • Oversee and coordinate the publications within their portfolio, available both online and in print;
  • Follow up with authors to ensure the timely delivery of manuscripts and updates according to established schedules;
  • Recruit new authors and replace authors who have withdrawn;
  • Participate in the editorial process and the publication of French-language manuscripts;

Establish and maintain strong relationships with the legal community, including practitioners, academics, members of the judiciary, librarians, and other external partners;

Contribute to various translation projects;

Act as a resource person for authors and various internal departments.

  • Requirements for the position
  • Excellent French language skills (oral and written);
  • Excellent English language skills (oral and written);
  • Law degree required;
  • Membership in the Barreau du Québec or Chambre des notaires du Québec is an asset;
  • Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines for print and online;
  • Strong relationship-building skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of cross-departmental project teams;
  • Excellent communication (oral and written);
  • Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office suit;

Experience operating with AI as a standard part of workflows, including demonstrated hands-on experience using LLMs and AI-enabled tools daily to support content and analysis; iterating prompts to improve output quality and consistency.

  • Profile sought
  • Excellent command of the French language;
  • Excellent command of the English language;
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in law;
  • Member of the Quebec Bar or the Chambre des notaires du Québec, an asset;
  • Organizational skills and great attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines for publishing our printed and online products;
  • Ability to develop privileged relationships with our colleagues and to work on projects involving several teams;
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written);
  • Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and the Microsoft Office suite;

Proficiency in the integration of artificial intelligence into work processes, including the daily use of language models (LLM) and AI tools to support content analysis and development, as well as iterative optimization of queries to ensure consistent quality results.
