Role Summary
We are looking for a Lead Backend Engineer (all genders) to be part of the development of our data-driven systems, particularly in one of the search, recommendations and sorting teams. These Circles are embedded in our Customer & Shop Intelligence Circle cluster, which is responsible for creating a personalized and inspiring shopping experience.
There are several possible areas you could work in. One of them is the design and implementation of search algorithms, the use of NLP techniques and the optimization of search results for relevance and efficiency to ensure that our search engine delivers highly accurate and comprehensive results, thereby improving the overall user experience. Another option would be to work at the center of our recommendation or ranking systems with deep insights into the algorithms behind them. You will work with other engineers and data scientists to ensure that the systems serve our customers in the best possible way, while optimally balancing speed and recommendation performance.
- Developed intelligent BI solutions using NodeJS with TypeScript
- Efficient management of large amounts of data using Google BigQuery and seamless integration into business intelligence systems
- Building and further developing high-frequency APIs while maintaining minimal latencies
- Close collaboration with experienced developers, product managers, data scientists and analysts to improve existing functionalities and introduce new features
Promotion of innovative ideas and developments, a flat organizational structure and quick decision-making processes create plenty of room for participation and growth
Working together on architectural decisions with our tech lead and exploring new technologies
Requirements
- More than 5 years of experience building scalable APIs (e.g. with Node.js, Python or Go)
- Practical and current experience with a typed programming language (e.g. TypeScript)
- In-depth know-how in dealing with SQL or NoSQL databases
- You write well-structured, efficient and maintainable code and actively pay attention to the quality of the code base
- You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- You are used to working in an English-speaking and agile environment
- You raise the quality of the software you work on to a higher level
- You like to take responsibility for a product, identify strongly with it and actively contribute your own ideas for improvement to the team
- You establish standards within your department as well as in collaboration with other engineers across team boundaries
Nice to have
- Experience working with an MPP data warehouse (e.g. Redshift, BigQuery)
- Experience with centralized logging, monitoring and alerting solutions (Datadog)
- Hands-on experience with cloud ecosystems (e.g. AWS, GCP) as well as integrating orchestration services (such as Dagster or Airflow)
- Experience with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch
- Experience building data models with dbt
- Experience operating data processing pipelines using distributed data processing frameworks
- Practical experience with machine learning models or LLM-based systems is an advantage
