Fire test supervisor at SGS in Burnaby, BC, Canada.
Role Summary
- Responsible for maintaining production and quality targets and ensuring optimal staffing levels are achieved
- Plan workflow across the department so that customer deadlines are met in a timely manner; Monitor throughput and performance
- Train and motivate staff, set objectives, evaluate performance and assess training needs
- Ensure necessary consumables/supplies are available, set minimum/maximum inventory limits and recommend if necessary
- Resolve daily production and process issues within the department
- Monitor and maintain laboratory quality control standards. Responsible for the quality of all data published by the department.
- Perform method validation
- Data evaluation and approval
- Work in partnership with other supervisors and managers to resolve customer issues to ensure quality and customer satisfaction standards are met.
- Conduct accident or incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Planning staff
- Recommend staffing adjustments to the operations manager based on workload.
- May need to understand and be able to perform referee control team analysis
- Able to evaluate the process and offer suggestions for improvement as needed
- Communicate personnel matters to the Operations Manager
- Supervise staff to perform laboratory analyzes according to established methods and respecting quality control (QC) standards.
- Plan and implement the procedures and systems necessary to ensure the maintenance and improvement of the company's quality program
- Ensure that all logs and records are maintained and up to date in all respects
- Ensure equipment is properly maintained, including organizing preventative maintenance schedule and making arrangements with contractors
- Organize waste disposal
Requirements
- Post-secondary studies (degree and/or diploma) in a science-related program (chemistry, geochemistry, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge in a field of geochemical analysis related to fire testing is required.
- 1 – 3 years of prior supervisory experience
- Strong leadership skills and experience supervising small technical teams, ideally providing leadership in supervising people in a minerals-related laboratory.
