Role Summary

We are looking for an environmental expert for the Contaminated Areas and Risk Management department of AFRY's Environment and Sustainability Unit, who is also qualified to act as a project manager.

As an environmental expert, you can participate in interesting and meaningful projects to solve our customers' challenges both independently and as a team, e.g. in research and remediation projects of contaminated soil and groundwater. Our department has around 40 experts and we work versatilely in various industrial, urban, infrastructure and energy projects. The job description of the person being applied for includes investigations of contaminated areas (soil, groundwater, sediment) as well as associated remediation need and risk assessments, and remediation planning. The tasks also include supervision of renovation and environmental sampling.

The environmental expert we are looking for will be located in our Oulu office, where a team of about 10 people works on projects related to polluted areas.

Requirements

The person we are looking for has

  • Higher university degree in technology (e.g. civil engineering or environmental engineering engineer (AMK) or natural sciences (e.g. soil geology, environmental ecology, soil sciences)
  • At least three years of experience in research and remediation projects of contaminated soil and groundwater (monitoring and sampling), water sampling, groundwater monitoring and risk assessments related to contaminated areas
  • Please speak both Finnish and English fluently
  • Willingness and ability to work in field work conditions
  • Basic information on the use of geospatial software AutoCAD, ArcGIS and QGIS
  • At least a B driver's license
  • We also consider it an advantage if you have:
  • Experience in projects related to construction sites and experience in the duties of a project manager
  • Experience in the following: construction, planning of landfills, preparation of environmental permits, environmental impact assessment, quality control of environmental construction at fuel distribution stations
  • Environmental sampler certification (SYKE)
