Role Summary
Distribution Center Manager directs one or more areas of the manufacturing environment to meet production, quality and cost objectives, overseeing daily operations of typically three (or four) shifts. This owner will determine the requirements for equipment, materials and human resources. The Distribution Center Manager represents Operations on cross-functional leadership teams to drive the business, financial, quality, operational and development objectives of their site workforce, and is responsible for operational results across multiple teams/units within a facility.
Responsibilities
Personnel Management and Development
- Attract, retain and develop high-potential talent, monitoring team performance and adjusting training plans as necessary.
- Lead all aspects of employee development, including training, setting annual goals (OGSM) and performance management (using the Global Performance Management System), providing regular feedback.
- Perform general management functions, including performance evaluations, promotions, terminations, estimating personnel needs and ensuring compliance with deadlines.
- Model and promote the Corporation's Code of Ethics and Business Values.
- Act as a role model for the team and an agent of change, positively influencing team members to achieve individual and business goals.
- Coordinate team efforts, create and manage a regional strategy and team operational plan.
- Site Management and Operations Responsibilities
Strategy and Performance
- Create and execute the vision and strategic operating plan for the plant, aligning the team with that vision.
- Analyze data to drive long-term strategic change and site improvement, fostering an organizational culture of continuous improvement.
- Translate market trends and customer needs into actionable goals that create competitive advantage.
- Successfully implement financial and business plans (financial, security, service, organization, inventory) in the short and long term.
Financial Management
- Develop, analyze and manage operating expenses (OPEX).
- Ensure accuracy and completion of capital planning and budgeting (CAPEX).
- Drive continuous cost reduction and improved operational effectiveness, achieving maximum levels of productivity to ensure the lowest possible cost and best value.
Safety and Quality
- Lead the safe operation of the facility as a top priority, complying with all legal, legislative and corporate safety requirements.
- Ensure that good operational practices are implemented and that improvement programs are incorporated into the culture of the Operations function.
- Understand and implement ISO 9000 procedures related to position responsibilities.
Project Management and Improvement
- Lead significant project initiatives (multi-site, multi-functional or multi-business), including scheduling and planning.
- Lead the benchmarking of Operations-related topics in support of divisional goals.
Requirements
- Industrial, chemical, mechanical, electronic or related engineering;
- 5+ years of experience in distribution center operations / 3+ years of experience leading work teams in manufacturing/distribution centers;
- Proven experience in logistics of moderate to high complexity, preferably in a plant or DC with Coating & Finishing operations.
- Working knowledge of modern manufacturing, material flow and improvement strategies (e.g. ELS) and the ability to integrate them into the operation.
- Strong financial and business acumen, with demonstrated understanding of financial systems and key drivers in the manufacturing/DC environment.
- Proven ability to lead and manage individuals and teams.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
- Strong skills in leadership, relationship building, mentoring, training and project management.
- Ability to analyze and extract information for long-term strategic changes and site improvement.
- Strong organizational skills in strategy, communication at all levels and execution.
