Responsibilities

  • Architectural Vision and Strategy: Define and drive the generative AI architecture strategy, ensuring UKG remains at the forefront of AI innovation. Develop and communicate a cohesive architectural vision, aligned with business objectives, enabling seamless integration of Generative AI (GenAI) capabilities across our entire product line.
  • Technical leadership: Provide primary technical vision for generative AI, providing hands-on guidance on advanced methods (e.g. transformer models, diffusion models, GANs) and defining technical standards to ensure scalability, security and efficiency.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with leadership, product management, data science and engineering teams to define and prioritize GenAI initiatives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of requirements and objectives, and drive the integration of AI capabilities across products.
  • Innovation and Research: Conduct practical and advanced research in generative AI, staying abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends and best practices. Drive the exploration and implementation of cutting-edge GenAI techniques to improve product value and generate competitive advantage.
  • Mentoring and Culture Development: Mentor and influence engineering leaders, fostering a culture of AI excellence, thought leadership, and continuous innovation. Promote best practices in AI/ML development, MLOps, CI/CD processes and QA to ensure high standards within the organization.
  • Community Engagement: Act as an ambassador for generative AI internally and externally, representing UKG within the AI community through publications, conferences and industry forums.
  • Scalable Solutions: Oversee the deployment of AI models at scale, ensuring they are optimized for performance, cost and resource efficiency in production environments. Establish guidelines for high-quality, production-ready AI/ML systems that can scale based on business needs.
  • Governance and standards: Define and apply development methodologies, CI/CD standards and architectural guidelines for AI solutions.

Maintain documentation of architectural decisions and technical roadmaps, ensuring a solid foundation for future AI-enabled capabilities.

Requirements

  • Education: Master's or PhD in computer science, AI, machine learning or related field, or equivalent professional experience. • Experience: 12+ years of experience in software development and AI, including at least 5 years of hands-on experience in generative AI, natural language processing (NLP), or related fields. Proven expertise in designing and deploying large-scale AI/ML systems into production.
  • Technical skills: Proficiency in programming languages (Python, Java, etc.) and AI frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.). Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and MLOps practices for training and deploying large-scale models.
  • AI Methodologies: In-depth knowledge of generative AI methodologies, including Transformer models, Diffusion models, GANs, large language models and multimodal architectures. Familiarity with NLP and machine learning algorithms, such as linear and logistic regression, decision trees, and clustering methods. • Industry Influence: Recognized expert in AI, with numerous publications in leading conferences and journals (NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, etc.) and an extensive network within the AI research community.
  • Problem Solving and Strategy: Excellent problem-solving skills and proven ability to influence and implement long-term strategic initiatives focused on AI.

Desired qualifications

  • Compliance and Responsible AI: Experience working in high compliance environments or with privacy-friendly AI techniques. Strong knowledge of trends in responsible AI, model interpretability and ethical practices in AI.
  • Optimization Expertise: Proven experience optimizing AI models for increased profitability at scale through model compression, distillation, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

The salary range for this position is $176,800.00 to $238,650.00 CAD. Actual base salary offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. In addition to base salary, employees may be eligible for a performance bonus plan and to receive restricted stock units as part of the total compensation program.
