Role Summary

We are looking for a hands-on, results-oriented Medior/Senior Data Scientist for our Data & AI practice in Nieuwegein. You translate complex business issues into robust, end-to-end data science solutions: designing, building and operationalizing models that deliver measurable value in various sectors. This includes both customer projects and internal product development.

For a medior profile we are generally looking for someone with 3+ years of relevant, practical experience; for a senior profile 5+ years. Regardless of these numbers, we also invite excellent candidates with strong technical expertise, impactful projects and demonstrable depth of knowledge to apply, regardless of exact number of years of experience.

Execute data science projects from problem definition to production implementation, working closely with Sopra colleagues and customer teams in a DevOps environment;

Working on innovative projects and products such as our simulations, digital twins or Large Language Models-as-a-service products (for LLMs see our specific LLM vacancy);

Operationalize models with MLOps/DevOps best practices; including MLflow for experiment tracking, Docker/Kubernetes for containerization, and CI/CD (Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions) for automated testing and releasing;

Advising clients on algorithm selection, scalable feature engineering pipelines and cloud-native deployment patterns: optimized for performance and cost-efficiency;

Mentor junior colleagues by conducting code reviews, sharing best practices and encouraging a culture of continuous learning;

Stay informed of the latest developments in reinforcement learning, causal inference, LLMs, GenAI, AutoML – and translate these insights into new services.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence or a related discipline;
  • Medior: 3+ years/ Senior: 5+ years of experience delivering production-ready data science solutions in a commercial or public environment;
  • Advanced proficiency in Python, including pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn and at least one deep learning framework (TensorFlow or PyTorch);

An agnostic mindset. We build products and execute projects without vendor lock-in or “Cloud Only” mentality. Innovation is paramount, so a combination of scientific and product-oriented approach is encouraged;

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker and Kubernetes), plus infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/Bicep) on Azure or on-prem;
  • Strong knowledge of MLOps toolchains including MLflow, Airflow, Azure ML SDK and automated CI/CD pipelines (Git, Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions);
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Demonstrable experience in leading projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and direct contact with business stakeholders;
  • Fluent in Dutch and English, both oral and written at a professional level;

Passion for continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and being at the forefront of the rapidly evolving data science field.
