The new Interdisciplinary Centre (IC) combines academic excellence and strategic research with impact. The IC reflects in its strategic focus the European political agenda of a dual (digital and green) transition and topics related to European sovereignty. Your role: The successful candidate will conduct outstanding research in EU digital regulation, the relationship between EU and international law, transnational governance and the theory of international institutions; contribute to the Centre's interdisciplinary agenda on European policy; seek external research funding (e.g., FNR, Horizon Europe) and lead or co-lead funded projects; and undertake other academic tasks and administrative duties as assigned by the LCEL Director. Collaboration with colleagues across the Faculty and with Luxembourg/EU institutions is expected. The appointee will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in European Union law within the Department of Law and, where appropriate, to courses related to European integration in other programmes of the University. Responsibilities include developing research-led electives or seminars in the candidate's area(s) of expertise, contributing to methods/skills training as appropriate, and supervising Master's dissertations, doctoral candidates and post-doctoral researchers. The role also involves academic service (e.g., seminar organisation, committee participation, quality assurance) and external engagement (judicial dialogues, expert input to regulators, public outreach), proportionate to rank. - PhD in European Union law or international law, especially in digital law
- Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas: o EU digital regulation (e.g., AI Act, DSA/DMA, data governance/cybersecurity), o International law, international organisations or theory of international law
- Strong publications commensurate with career stage in recognised EU and/or international law outlets (journals, monographs/edited volumes, reports)
- Established record in applying for external funding (FNR, Horizon Europe, or comparable); clear potential and a funding plan
- University-level teaching experience in EU and international law; readiness to teach across Bachelor/LL.M./Doctoral levels in the above domains
- Commitment to research-led, practice-oriented pedagogy (case studies, problem-based learning)
- Willingness to contribute to Centre/Faculty service (seminars, committees, quality assurance)
- Track record (or potential) in project/team coordination and mentoring junior researchers
- Interdisciplinary orientation and readiness to collaborate within UL (e.g., SnT, LCSES, C2DH) and with external partners (courts, regulators, industry/civil society)
- Doctrinal rigour with comparative sensitivity; openness to empirical/legal-tech methods (e.g., datasets, enforcement trackers) is an asset
- Alignment with LCEL's strategy and Luxembourg's institutional ecosystem (CJEU/EU bodies)
- Experience co-producing practice-relevant outputs (amicus-style briefs, consultation responses, policy/practice notes)
- Experience in executive/continuing education (judicial/regulatory training)
